When the gentle woodcarver Geppetto (Christian Rub) builds a marionette to be his substitute son, a benevolent fairy brings the toy to life. The puppet, named Pinocchio (Dick Jones), is not yet a human boy. He must earn the right to be real by proving that he is brave, truthful, and unselfish. But, even with the help of Jiminy (Cliff Edwards), a cricket who the fairy assigns to be Pinocchio's conscience, the marionette goes astray. He joins a puppet show instead of going to school, he lies instead of telling the truth, and he travels to Pleasure Island instead of going straight home. Yet, when Pinocchio discovers that a whale has swallowed Geppetto, the puppet single-mindedly journeys into the ocean and selflessly risks his life to save his father, thereby displaying that he deserves to be a real boy. Based on a series of stories by 19th century Italian author Carlo Collodi, Pinocchio came under fire for being a sugarcoated version of its original tale, but the film's moral did have a strong educational effect on children. Pinocchio is Classic Disney Movie but if you just want the Movie then only order Disc 1 Disc 2 has all the extras on it, and I would have known I would have rented another Movie instead...

Why would they send disc 2 and not the movie????? Kids are ready to watch and then totally disappointed. I had to go out and get another movie to replace....NOT HAPPY.

Still one of my favorite Dsney Classics, and my granddaughter was totally into the movie. Highly recommend it. Definitely rent Disc 1. I'm glad I read previous email's recommendation.

Nearly everybody has seen this movie. It is in my opinion the best of the early disney movies. I got this on blu ray, so I'm reviewing it. The colors where amazingly bright, but I wish the movie could have been cropped, it was too weird watching a blu ray movie in fullscreen format.And I hate how the blu rays are being made as two discs sets. A blu ray disc can hold so much data. There is absolutly no reason why all the extras could not be fit onto one disc with the movie. I hadn't seen this movie since I was little kid and I noticed how messed up our rating systems have become over the years. In this movie kids drink and smoke, but there is a purpose to it. Now days, if cigirettes or alcohol appear in a kids movie it is automatically rated PG-13, but sexual refrences, crude jokes, and language can be slammed into a movie and it can still be rated PG. Just thought I'd share some of my realizations here. If you haven't already seen this movie, then shame on you.
