The teenage survivors of a collapsed train tunnel crawl out of the wreckage to make a horrifying discovery that will change their lives forever in this apocalyptic sci-fi-disaster effort from Rasen director Joji Iida. Teru Aoki is returning home on the express train from a school trip when, after entering into a tunnel, the walls come crumbling down around him. Though most of Teru's classmates perished in the accident, Ako Seto and Nobou Takahashi have survived and the three desperately claw their way to the surface only to discover that all of Tokyo has been devastated by an unexplained disaster. This movie started off rather well for a voice over movie. Even though it got progressively worse, the start of the movie made me want to go further into the movie even though the torment of atrocious acting and bad Japanese humor kept pulling my eye balls out. After an hour of watching this movie I knew it was in for child birth. It was painful to watch, but the principal reason I give this movie any credit was because I have seen some real dreadful movies in my day but this one made me stay with it just to see what the heck was going on. It was like storing the vomit in your mouth after you have barfed as to not dirty the carpet. When the ending finally came, I released the vomit and was actually dumber for having watched the movie. Great start, good concept but lost it half way through and gave up. Maybe the director ran out of money?

Though there is quite a bit of meandering, I thought Dragonhead was very enjoyable. Fans of Manga in general will find a lot to love in this adaptation's stunning visuals and emotional spectacle. Don't bother putting the features disk (disk 2) in your que though, the extra features are just filler garbage. The behind the scenes footage is just some guy with a camcorder standing behind the actual camera man during filming, the cast interview only asks three questions (one is about the weather), and the b-reel ("alternate scenes" I guess) seems to be completely identical to actual scenes... just at a slightly different angle.

this film was an excellent dipiction of what the world might be like in an apocalyptic setting. if you don't like voice overs or subtitles than you might not like this. but it is a brilliant film with amazing imagery.
