Evil (2006)
Member Rating:
The living dead descend upon early 21st century Athens for a fleshy feast that will leave viewers breathless in the directorial debut of writer/director Yorgos Nousias. When three construction workers are infected by an unseen evil while exploring an underground cavern, the apocalyptic chaos that follows threatens to consume all of Greece. After one of the workers devours his wife, another attacks his frightened daughter Jenny (Mary Tsoni), who narrowly manages to escape with a little assistance from athletic neighbor Marina (Pepi Moskhovakou). The third worker then goes public with his bloodlust, prompting a frenzied panic as he transforms a friendly soccer match into a monstrous vision of undead terror. After Andreas (Nikos Sambalis) somehow manages to escape the flesh-eating horde, he finds himself in the company of the spirited Dimitra (Starvoula Thomopoulou) and outspoken taxi cab driver Argyris (Argyris Thanansoulas). Upon meeting up with the heavily-armed Meletis (Meletis Georgiadis), Andreas, Dimitra, and the rest of the survivors set their sights on a nearby soccer stadium to wage one last battle against the flesh-eating legions of the damned. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

All true fans of the zombie genre will enjoy this movie. I don't mind watching a movie with subtitles so this did not bother me. This movie reminded me a lot of 28 days later. I think the filmaker did an excellent job of portraying what it would feel like to be caught up in an apocolyptic event. Give it a chance. If you enjoy this movie I also recommend "Dead Meat".

This movie was well done and very enjoyable. If you liked 28 days later you will enjoy this movie. Has some great gore scenes and has mixed in comedy relief to off set the bleak possiblity of survival. A MUST rent. And god forbid if you have to read the subtitles, it does not take away from the quality of the movie. Heck even if you could not read this movie is eye candy. -Moviemessiah

I usually like renting B flicks to see how bad they are and poke fun at them sometimes but I must say this is actually pretty good. Despite a few minor details this is highly enjoyable.

Don't let the cheesey artwork on the DVD's cover fool you. This is actually an above-average "zombie" movie. Where, believe it or not, most of the characters don't make absolutely stupid choices that get them killed like you'd see in any given "Friday the 13th" slasherfest. These characters are actually somewhat likable and believable. Just remember, it is a zombie film so don't expect too much realism. :)

Don't pay attention to those negative reviews. This is indeed a horror, and the acting isn't bad for Polish actors. I would have rated it higher except of the inconsistencies... a soldier shows up with a bunch of help, and the next scene all his help is gone. There are people decapitating with candlesticks, and shoving the blunt handle of an axe through the back side of someone's head ... these are just a little impossible if you know what I mean. Quite a bit more like that. But the worst part was the ending. Absolutely stupid ending. But the movie was entertaining as a whole.

Good lord, what are these other reviewers watching? Cliche' of 1970's-esque unseeable (which keeps production $ low) evil deep in earth gets out with NO story at all. Zombies are 28 days later, plot hinges on extreme gore- and since when do people fall apart like cake? The acting is laughable, with one character suddenly becoming Jet Li (and I can fake Karate better than these laugh out loud scenes), and one punching his way through the backs of two zombies to give a one liner: "Want to give me five?" Yikes. The soundtrack is a mix of club and casiotone. The bad box art tells the truth. Thanks to the other reviews, I was sucked into this waste.

The special effects were pretty bad, but it didn't really matter since this was more of a character driven horror movie. Overall, very good.

For a low budget zombie movie, this was very well done. Some good comic relief. If you don't mind subtitles, check it out. Its worth the time!
