Adam Shankman's adaptation of the stage musical Hairspray, itself an adaptation of the non-musical John Waters film of the same name, stars Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad, an overweight high-school student whose only dream is to be on a local Baltimore teen dance program. While her father (Christopher Walken) tells her to follow her dreams, her mother Edna (John Travolta in drag) reminds her that she doesn't look like the girls on that show. After impressing the show's host (James Marsden), Tracy earns a coveted spot on the program, but when she becomes a popular addition to the cast, she earns the wrath of the prettiest girl in school -- a girl whose mother (Michelle Pfeiffer) just happens to operate the local television station. Tracy's visit to detention hall opens her eyes to the racial tension on the show, as does the budding relationship between her best friend (Amanda Bynes) and an African-American boy named Seaweed (Elijah Kelley). Thus empowered, Tracy attempts to integrate the races on her favorite program. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi
What a waste of time this movie was, with the exception of John Travolta and Christopher Walken. It was lacking in cohesivness, over acted by most characters, and lacking in character development. It was like whoever was in charge of creating the movie felt that the more characters you had, the better the movie would be. A lot hype for nothing, at least that's my opinion.
There are no words to descibe this movie. An absolute delight! Nikki Blonsky is powerful with her role as Tracy Turnblad and is supported by a star-studded cast. There are a couple of scene stealing moments between Amanda Bynes and Allison Janney. Songs such as : "I Can Hear The Bells" and "Good Morning Baltimore" will keep you laughing till the end. You can feel the chemistry between every actor and actress. With a fantastic and surprising ending(well at least for me it was surprising) Hairspray is a great movie. By the way, Queen Latifah is beyond words a superb actress and performer, "I Know Where I've Been" is completely beautiful.
All i can say was it was funny and the music was great. niki blonskey was a fantasic singer and dancer. she should get a award. Jhon Travoltra kept the funny going on.
