C.R.A.Z.Y. (2005)
Member Rating:
A middle-class teenage misfit living in '70s era Montreal dreams of abandoning his familiar hometown surroundings to seek a brighter future in director Jean-Marc Vallée's character-driven drama. A sexually-confused Christmas Day baby who likes to march to the beat of his own drummer, Zachary Beaulieu (Marc-André Grondin) nevertheless longs to live up to his old-fashioned father's (Michel Cote) decidedly more traditional expectations. As Zachary seeks solace in the sounds of Pink Floyd and David Bowie, his mother assures him that he's bound for greater things and testosterone-fueled siblings raise hell around the house. Despite feeling bound by his comparatively normal surroundings, the revelations provided by David Bowie's "Space Oddity" allows the disheartened Zachary the luxury of dreaming. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Good movie although it was difficult where it was going through so much of the time. However, it was fairly well acted and it told a realistic story that I'm sure happens to lots of closeted gay teens. REcommend it!

Although some of the plot is a bit twisted and maybe too far-fetched for some to believe, I found it compelling to watch. The acting is superb, and despite a few slow parts, I was intrigued by this family throughout the movie.

A rather substantial storyline that's impressive and involving. Great chunks of humor along with serious situations that set you to thinking about problems associated with drugs and with being gay. Attractive cast. Some real character development. Above average.

The movie was excellent and the cast, ditto! It's hard for me to judge this movie from a prespective (or point of view) of the screenwriter, as this is his 'take' of a confused teenager trying to cope with his true identity. Denying himself in order to please his father and fending off to be labeled a 'f*g' by his peers, he lashes out at his friend; hooks up with his female cousin (inc**t?) to set up the facade of hetrosexual identity. Due to the limitations of a review there are a few questions left unresolved about his character, but maybe a sequel will answer them.

Grew up in Montreal -this film gets the 70's and Quebecois family culture and is a seriously good view of growing up sexually confused. Seen ' Milk ' ? - check this out !

This is an excellent coming of age film, told in a brilliant and intelligent way. The performances are first rate! Marc-Andre Grondin's portrayal is heart warming and moving.

A boundlessly energetic coming-of-age story. Thoroughly entertaining and visually arresting it delves beneath all the complex layers that unite and divide a family. Definatly worth your time.

Excellent performances though the film could've done with some editing as it felt a bit repetitive for 127 minutes. And it was fun to relive my teen 70s through this film!

70"s costumes, music and cars absolutey on the money, and the kid in the first part was exceptional. The adolescent angst goes on too long, and never seems to be resolved: is he gay or straight or what? And of course, we've all walked out in a desert to die and Bedouins came to save us, thus making us understand the importance of our families, or something. Acting is good, but the story loses its way.

First of all, this movie isn't even in English. While annoying, having to read subtitles is NOT a deal-breaker. But I couldn't get past eleven and 1/2 minutes of this tripe. From my perspective, this is a boring film about a subject (a gay boy coming to terms with his deviance) that I could not care less about. Really...I can sum it up in two words: SORRY MOVIE
