Surge of Power (2004) Reviews

Surge of Power (2004)
Member Rating:
Play an entertaining game of spot the celebrity while laughing along at the campiest superhero adventure since Adam West punched out The Joker. A completely original comic-book-style crime fighter who's not afraid to give his enemies a shocking surprise, Surge of Power is hot on the trail of a maniacal super-villain who will stop at nothing to achieve absolute power. Of course, with a little help from veterans like Lou Ferrigno and Nichelle Nichols, fledgling superhero Surge may have his work cut out for him. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I understood the idea behind the movie, major fandom, and that's great. What's not great is, well, this movie! I hate being like this, but I like comics, superheroes, and movies and this movie had all 3. Should have been a perfect tri-fecta! It wasn't. I stopped it halfway through because I got sick of how fans of comics were portrayed, the bad acting, and I'm not homophobic but the overly homosexual overtures. I was disappointed BIG time. I'm good with campy! I enjoyed Adam West's BATMAN, and William Katt in THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO, and I have many other super hero movies that I enjoy. This is not one of them. If they remake it, I will give it another chance. Surge of Power can be seen as Kryptonite to Superman; it can kill and make people sick.

Reading the Reviews was better than watching the movie. We couldn't watch the whole thing. Everything about it was terrible. We laughed quite a bit at the negative reviews. They were spot on.

Blockbuster should put a warning label on this DVD . My 3 1/2 year old picked it out in the store. I never heard of it before and nothing stating the surge of power from the obscene gays that play in the movie on cover. I find this movie sad and not everyone needs such a rush in the gay community ! Blockbuster also should separate these type of movie in a different area!

The concept for the movie was good, but defeated by a bad screenplay and bad acting. Hard to finish.

Very cheeseball flick - a nice attempt at parody of both the superhero genre and gay life -- except the acting was SOO bad, it was hard to watch at points. Good looking men in (and out of) spandex almost made it worth watching. The special effects wetre better than the acting, which isn't really saying much.
