Cabin Fever director Eli Roth skips the humor of his freshman feature and goes straight for the jugular in this unrelenting scare-fest about a pair of libidinous American backpackers seeking cheap thrills in the European countryside. Their carefree college days close behind and the responsibility of the real world looming ever closer on the horizon, Josh (Derek Richardson) and Paxton (Jay Hernandez) strap on their backpacks and prepare for a stratospheric last hurrah of booze, babes, drugs, and debauchery halfway across the globe. It's during a visit to Amsterdam that the pair meets up with raucous Icelandic backpacker Oli (Eythor Gudjonsson), and after the three globe-trotting thrill seekers catch wind of a Slovakian city whose male population has dwindled as a result of civil strife -- leaving the ladies ready and willing to accept any male companionship that might turn up at the local hostel -- the trio quickly beats a hasty retreat to the out-of-the-way oasis. Upon check-in, the trio is greeted by a bevy of beautiful locals and is quickly convinced that the hedonistic hideaway is indeed the real deal. Hazily awakening the following morning to find no trace of backpacking buddy Oli, Paxton chalks his former traveling companion's disappearance up to capriciousness and prepares for another day of debauchery, despite Josh's rapidly elevating sense of unease. Now trapped defenselessly in a foreign land without any means of escape and no way of anticipating the unimaginable hell that lies ahead, the pair is plunged into a torturous netherworld where the screams of the damned fill the air with dread and the warm rays of the sun are little more than a fading memory. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Hostel is a good film. It is incredibly violent and contains some truly brutal scenes, but they are all in the service of the big picture. The end of the film is extremely rewarding and surprisingly suspenseful, once all of the brutality runs its course. Hostel is classic storytelling with a twist and is certainly not for the faint of heart.

Made me sick to my stomach the first time I saw this film. That's sayin a lot because I've seen a lot of gore in horror movies and I can take alot. That's what made me realize how good it really was!!! Jay Hernandez does an outstanding job as both victim and revenge seeker!!!! Be forewarned that some of the gore might make you sick to your stomach!

Its Scary cause it could actually happen. Its pretty gory but I don't think you would get the movie without it. Its the first movie to give me nightmares!

Great acting on behalf of all the actors! True horror movie that will make you flinch and gag!

Good idea for a horror movie but the execution here was disappointing. Instead of going the "psychological thriller" route the filmmakers chose gratuitousness instead, leaving little, if anything, to the viewer's imagination.

I was so excited to see this movie but only after a few minutes of watching it I was very disappointed. I mean there were like 2 bone chilling scenes and the rest was just a snore. Saw was more scary and there is nothing scary about those movies! I am a true blooe, gore, horror fan but this def. did not make my list

If you like a senseless movie with killing humans as a sport this movie is for you. It SUCKED! The acting was nonexistant. VERY VIOLENT AND GORY. BLEH! I can't believe they made a second one. Not worth watching even if it is free.

Rented this because my sister said, "it's the scariest movie I've ever seen". Yes, at the end of the movie when you understand the premise it is rather frightening. However, spending the first 30-odd minutes looking at all over tans and enhancements is another version of scary. Overall pretty lame.

This is a very cool movie. I loved it and would watch it over and over again, I will probably buy it. blood and gore men and women and sex oh la la. men are men they love sex will do anything 4 it. I disagree with the people who didn't like it, I loved it and thought it was better than first, gory sex and revenge.
