Mary Agnes Donohue adapted her French success Le Grand Chemin for this American version, reworked as a vehicle for Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson. Paradise is a coming-of-age story about a 10-year-old boy named Willard (Elijah Wood), who is sent by his mother to stay with her best friend Lily (Melanie Griffith), who lives in the Delta shrimp-fishing country in a town called Paradise. Lily and her husband Ben (Don Johnson) have been living in an unmentioned emotional vacuum since the death of their own three year old boy. Willard makes friends with the local 9-year-old tomboy, Billie (Thora Birch), who teaches Willard to be comfortable with himself. When Willard gains a handle on his own emotions, he can now help Ben and Lily to connect, overcome grief and rediscover themselves. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

Loved the plot and actors, wish nudity had been handled so teens could see it. I would hesitate to show my teenagers!

Usually I don't like American remakes of foreign movies, but I enjoyed this remake. The film was sort of sad, but the emotional awaking of Lily is something that was needed. The children were fun and charming and a great support to each other.

Little Harry Potter was very good in this. So was Thora Birch. Cool to see them both so young and so talented. Melanie Griffith was very sad in this sad movie. Don Johnson was very cranky. Wish the nudity wasn't in this so my kids could see this.

A young boy helps to reignite the relationship of a couple after the loss of their child, moving, heart ache, sweet, decent movie.

I liked it alot. Both little kids were cute. The nudity was no big deal. I wouldn't mind my teen age, or even pre teenage kids seeing it. It was a take off of the French film Grand Highway, except they didn't show the little boy being given a bath standing up,covering his little dick with his hands.
