Writer and director Michael Mann updates the groundbreaking television crime series he created in the 1980s with this stylish thriller. Ricardo Tubbs (Jamie Foxx) and Sonny Crockett (Colin Farrell) are two police detectives working undercover in Florida; Tubbs is smart, cool, and resourceful, while Crockett has his own way of doing things, though he stays close enough to the rules to stay out of trouble. Their latest assignment is to get the goods on Arcangel de Jesus Montoya (Luis Tosar), a local drug kingpin whose men are believed to be responsible for a handful of recent murders. In order to infiltrate Montoya's operation, Tubbs and Crockett pose as powerboat racers willing to use their talents to pilot drug-smuggling ships for the right price. The detectives' ruse works, but as they dig deeper into Montoya's inner circle, they become involved in a dangerous operation that will take them to Haiti and Cuba, where neither the Miami Police Force nor the United States government can help them if things go wrong. Crockett also begins walking a risky path when he begins an affair with Isabella (Gong Li), a woman high up in Montoya's organization. Miami Vice marked Michael Mann's third consecutive directorial effort with Jamie Foxx after Ali and Collateral. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

this movie was pretty terrible. It doesn't know what it wants to be, and although Michael Mann is a great director, he misfired here big time. We don't know if it's a drama, an action flick, a cops and robbers romp, or a comedy, although it's not funny at all. Terrible performances from otherwise great actors Foxx and Colin, and the supporting actors bombed as well, although the settings and cinematography are wonderfully done. I'd give one star but extra half for it being shot in Miami and luscious shots of beautiful scenes.

As a testament to how good this movie is, i am adding it to my queue to see it for the 5th time. Great acting, great action, very cool! Some people just don't like to see th e Miami scene, too much diversity for them. But that's reality, and progress.

One of the worst movies ever made.

For those of you familiar with the old TV show, this movie stays pretty close to the original. Crockett again falls for some Asian female (that happens to be hooked up with the major drug trafficker he's after), although she's actually palying the part of a Cuban woman. (Couldn't they find a Cuban to play a Cuban? Or, at least someone that looked hispanic?)--- Some might consider this to be slow, but that's part of the appeal. It's a tight drama more than anything else, with some good character interplay and a good touch of suspense. It's a good story, to say the least, even with the flaws.

OK. I saw the movie. It was OK. The acting was awful! Colin Farrell was ridiculous. The only talented one was Jamie Foxx. My BIG issue was the Chinese woman that was supposed to be Cuban. OMG!....You mean to tell me you couldn't find one authentic Chinese Cuban woman to act in that role??????? I hate when Hollywood does that kind of shyt...like hire Mexicans to play Cubans (Scarface) or Haitians playing Jamaicans. Casting agents cant find the real thing???!!!!! It kills me!

Well, it could've been a great movie. I had high hopes, but was disappointed. I have to admit that when I realized Colin Farrell was playing the lead role of 'Sonny Crockett",...well...."POOF". There goes any hope that the movie could hold its own. Jamie Foxx is very good. But, not even he can carry Farrell to the promised land of movie hits. Reference the movie "Alexander". Enough said...rent something else.

I have to be honest, I only watched about a half hour of this movie. The whole time I was confused. I could hear the dialogue, I recognized it as English, but still nothing made sense to me. The whole time while watching the movie I felt like something was missing...maybe a story line? The story kept jumping around, and all scenes seemed related, however, they weren't helping to move the story forward. Maybe the movie got better? I wouldn't know. I stopped the movie and stuffed it back into the BlockBuster Accesss envelope.

If you think this movie is like the TV series - you will be very disappointed. The TV series was so much better than this. There is no "eye candy" - no classy cars or drop dead clothes. It's not set in South Beach but the streets of Miami. Jamie Foxx's role is almost non-existent. Lots of violence. Not worth your time.

I hated this movie!!! When did undercover detectives fly their own personal planes, have their own boats and drive expensivie cars? I had no idea what was going on--and colin Ferrells' hair is awful!!
