Beth Hart: Live at Paradiso features the female singer performing a May 2004 show in historic Amsterdam. She performs over a dozen songs including "Whole Lotta Love," "Lay Your Hands on Me," "Delicious Surprise," "Hiding Under Water," and "Am I the One." ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi
I write this as I'm listening to the cd version of this concert for the first time (and looking forward to the DVD). I saw Beth during her first tour in 1996 and, although I'm more a fan of hard rock and metal, seeing this woman on stage (and commanding the stage), took me back. Of all the acts that played on the 2nd stage that day (including Ben Fold Five), she was the only one that I held me for the entire show. I immediately went out and bought her first cd and have loved her ever since (although her 2nd cd is weak in my opinion, her last 2 are phenomenal). She really does remind me of Janis Joplin (I imagine this is the way Janis sang and performed in her heyday). Do yourself a favor and just give her a try.
I can see where she might appeal to some, but she was a little too strange for me. And I consider myself to have pretty diverse tastes. No doubt she is talented with plenty of raw sexuality, but I couldn't make it through the whole thing. If you think you may like her, give it a try. Overall the concert is well filmed with good production values.
I had never heard of this blues artist before, ever. So, I read the reviews on Amazon before borrowing this concert. THey compared her to Janis, Robert Plant, Otis REdding, ETta James, etc. I was like "yeah, right".... very skeptical. But, this DVD was incredible. THis chick is very talented.. and also very reminiscent of Janis Joplin. I loved her when she did the blues... soul, soul, soul. Her other songs were great, too; she is a very talented songwriter, singer, and performer. I highly recommend this concert.
