One False Move (1991)
Member Rating:
Carl Franklin made his directorial bow with the story of three LA drug dealers who, after committing a rather messy murder, hide out in a rural Arkansas town. Assuming that the local "rubes" will offer them little interference, the criminals have not reckoned with sheriff "Hurricane" Dixon (Bill Paxton). Despite the arrogance of the LAPD agents sent to Arkansas to collar the crooks, it is down-home Dixon who puts the final bloody showdown into motion (the fact that the thieves have been falling out throughout the film doesn't hurt things either). Carl Franklin knows where he's going in every frenetic frame of One False Move, and his movie was one of the most acclaimed independent releases of 1991. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

Not much more to say. From the first frame to the last, you won't be able to walk way from it. The realism is superb.

This is one of my top ten favorite movies of all time. The suspense builds to a fantastic climax, not to mention the underlying subplots. I'm not a big fan of Bill Paxton, but he is perfectly cast in this film as the small town sherriff who wants to finish it his way. "One False Move" and "A Simple Plan" make a great double bill!

This was a good movie. It kept my attention and had a good twist. Casting was great and Billy Bob Thorton was the best, as usual.

Bill Paxton, the small hick town sherriff might have asiprations for a job with the LAPD. Until he meets them and gets a glimpse of what it is like to work with them on a case. The case involves a local woman who fell in with the wrong crowd. Billy Bob Thornton plays the bad guy boyfriend like it was wrote for him. Builds suspense throughout, sherriff Paxton outwits the LAPD in the end.

I really expected more from the movie... A little disapointing... More made for TV type of a movie.

DVD had captions, so I could "hear" what was being said. Not much to say about the movie itself, though. It was as my star rating indicates - "okay". I appreciate it being Carl Franklin's directorial bow, but it was only "okay". My wife and son thought it was horrible and didn't want to finish the movie. They said "One False Move" is a misnomer because the bad guys don't make only ONE false move - the story is one of three people making a SERIES of false moves. Sorry, Carl.....

A violent movie at times, but extremely well done, well acted and well worth viewing.

I follow an excellent crime noir comic series called "Criminal". At the back of each issue the writer likes to review films and give out recommendations. Following a recommendation, I rented and watched this film, and was not dissapointed. I tend not to like much from Billy Bob Thornton, and he was actually pretty good in this film, however Bill Paxton really makes it. It is a pretty simple story, but it is VERY well executed, and the ending is very abrupt(which to me is a great thing). Definitely a good watch.
