Swedish director Lasse Hallstrom made his American movie debut with this romantic comedy, starring Holly Hunter as Renata Bella, an aimless Bostonian thirtysomething who attends a seminar for aspiring condo salespersons. Here she meets hotshot salesman Sam Sharpe (Richard Dreyfuss), who immediately falls in love with her. After the marriage, Sam's well-meaning but obnoxious insistence on insinuating himself into every aspect of Renata's life rubs the rest of her family the wrong way. Though the script occasionally veers into both cliché and sentimentality, Once Around ends up a thoroughly charming experience, thanks to Hallstrom's knowing direction and the marvelous chemistry between Hunter and Dreyfuss. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

For some reason I did not enjoy this movie very much. Richard Dreyfuss caracter was so obnoxious. Too much close family for my taste. The end left you feeling downcast.

This was a good movie. I enjoyed the family dynamics. It was bright, colorful, and cheerful even with the sad events which happened. Holly Hunter gave a great performance.

Who doesn't like Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter together? If you're from the northeast you can easily relate to this movie with it's winter scenes. I love the family dynamics that occur - very moving. Keep the kleenex handy.

It was entertaining but I wouldn't say it was a great movie. I kept waiting for something bad to happen. It was just kind of blah.

This movie was so much like real life. We LOVED IT!! There were some sad parts...and then some really laugh out loud parts. Richard Dreyfuss did an excellent job as Sam Sharpe, and older man who fell madly in love with Holly Hunter's character - Renata. You end up having great empathy for him 'cause his motives were so misunderstood by her family. A good family flick, and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to see an outstanding PG16/R rated movie. I would love to see this one again.

Great movie, great acting by all and about great family love, and dysfunction by the new son in law.

Delightful family drama/comedy/romance. All actors were perfectly cast. Although Sam was a little "over the top" the role was well played by Dreyfess and showed a lot of heart. I rented this movie because I know I can depend of Hallstrom, and he didn't dissappoint.

Marvelous movie. Dannie Aiello is one of my favorites and he wonderful in this movie. Holly, Richard, Gena and Laura all do a good job also. Story about a family & their closeness. Definitely rent this movie. Its one of the best I have watched in a long time. Way better than some of these stupid NEW movies that are coming out. This one tells a real story
