Duke Ellington was the man, the pianist, the arranger, the architect, and the total musician. You played with Duke, you know you made it. I was amazed that at the time this movie was recorded that Duke looked in very good shape both physically and mentally. I would recommend this movie to anyone who wants to know what Duke was like off the stage. I heard many stories but this movie opened my eyes to a man who was totally dedicated to his craft. Duke Breakfast, astounding! The fact that he wrote many songs that he would perform only once shows you at his age he still was generating ideas. You can hear him discuss some of his thoughts and ideas about music, about those he allowed in his inner circle, and how he prepared for a performance and post performances. This movie gives you a good insight into the man and I recommend that all who want to learn about the Duke to take a look at.
