Vincente Minnelli directed, and Alan Jay Lerner adapted the stage musical he had written with Burton Lane, for this this feature film version. Barbra Streisand stars as Daisy Gamble, a chain smoker who, at the urging of her uptight fiance Warren (Larry Blyden), seeks help in kicking the habit from a psychiatrist, Dr. Marc Chabot (Yves Montand). While undergoing hypnosis, however, Daisy and Dr. Chabot discover that she is clairvoyant and can remember a past life as a 19th century heiress named Melinda. As their sessions continue, Dr. Chabot falls in love not with Daisy, but Melinda, while Daisy begins to fall for Chabot and decides she's had enough of Warren. Excised from the final cut of On a Clear Day You Can See Forever (1970) was a musical number performed by Jack Nicholson, who costars as Daisy's stepbrother. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Hi, I'm not John, I'm Mia. I had vague memories from early childhood of Barbara S. dressed like Madeline with a big french hat and mini dress. Then I found this movie and a flood of memories came back. Even the opening with all the geometrical art reminded me of the Sears Cataloge that year and the Dawn Dolls I was playing with while my mother was watching the movie. I was home sick when the DVD came, and I watched it over & over- I really enjoyed it. Naturally- this movie seems hokey by today's standards but if you're looking for a trip down memory lane and you had enough of Hepburn and Doris Day, try this! You might just see forever! ;)

I absolutely love this movie! I am a huge Barbra Streisand fan, and this movie is my favorite of hers. I enjoy the cinemotography, the music and the theme that everyone is special regardless of how awkward you are. The music and the movie always make me feel better when I am having a bad day. Yves Montand isn't a bad leading character either. The soundtrack is great! If you like musicals, I highly recommend this movie! It is a great pick me up !

Like buttah! Barbra's amazing singing and comedic talents are in great form here. Who knew she could do such a great British accent? Definitely worth seeing if you are a Barbra fan. This movie is one of her best.

How can you NOT like this movie? It has a wonderful story, fabulous music and most of all - it has Barbra Streisand. I first saw this movie when i was about 10 years old...and it remains one of my all time favorites.

Oh man, I love this movie! First, there is Barbara Streisand singing some of her best songs. The story covers both modern day and the past in the context of reincarnation. This movie is so fun and has such great music, I've watched over and over for many years. This is my favorite movie of Barbara Streisand (including Funny Girl). You cannot go wrong unless you hate Barbara. This movie ascends to the highest place on the lists.

Despite its interesting premise this is little more than a romantic comedy with a few songs thrown in. Minnelli is almost able to make Streisand look attractive at times and it seems as though part of his (or somebody's) agenda was to make her fun bags as prominent as possible and still get a G-rating.

Sort of a nuetral movie for me - the leads don't necessarily fall in love at the end, sort of meanders through time, etc. etc.

An absolute delight! Thank goodness we can go back to the '70s to see what real entertainment is all about. Beautiful to look at and listen to. A charming story performed by a dazzling cast. Loved it!

I'm sorry to say this but this wasn't one of Barbra's best and I usually love her stuff. It was a weird plot and too wordy and too much nonsense singing. I love Barbra's voice and all, but the music didn't seem to fit and I'm sorry, but Yves Montand has a terrible voice! I had a really difficult time not turing it off, hoping that it would get better, but no such luck.
