Better than the new Sci Fi channel version. Maybe I'm a purist but the story isn't as drawn out. Your not kept guessing for 4 hours. Its plain simple and entertaining. The special effects obviously aren't up to todays standard but equal to Empire Strikes Back. The only disapointment is that you can only hear it in Mono, yes Mono. I had a stereo in 1979. Star Wars was offered in dolby. I guess it was before MTV and no one had stereo tv's. Anyway, Its worth a rental, even if just for nostalgia.

Watching the premiere of Star Wars in 1977 as a 10 year old got me into sci-fi and when BG released the next year on TV, it fueled me even more into the genre. I agree this was a nice nostalgia trip. I haven't seen these episodes and the pilot/movie since they were first released 30 years ago. I rented this so I could see and compare the fundamental story to the new "reimagined" series that I'm also watching now (through these rentals, I don't have cable TV). Too bad the classic BG didn't go on longer than a year due to the huge production expenses and drawn out stories. I'm liking the new series though. ~Rob

It will remind you how far we have come in CG. But it will also remind you how we used to pay attention to story and dialogue versus simple blood and guts. If you want to watch this to compare it, don't waste your time. But if you want to watch a movie that can take you to the edge of imagination with a story, a plot and real characters - sit back and enjoy the show. I loved it both for the story and for the nostalgia.

Battlestar Galactica was a sci-fi creation ahead of its time. Due to the overwhelming success of Star Wars, television came under intense pressure to create a weekly series with all the modern special effects. Most people forget how successful Battlestar was in the early episodes, but the formula was untenable--no amount of commercial revenue could pay for the huge cost of producing the weekly show. In this initial film, however, Battlestar was in its top form. The story is intensely human and the cylons still give me the chills. Although the new series benefits from inexpensive digital effects, the original series had a better cast and a better musical score. This film was history in the making. Don't miss it.

Suprisingly not bad. This is a fun action-adventure sci-fi that doesn't take itself overly serious. Fairly engaging and fast paced storylines. If you like action - this one is for you. If you like drama/soap opera then the new one is better.

I had fogotten how bad BG sucked, but watching this movie, it all came back to me. I gave this dog one star, only because it was good job of editing several shows into one cohesive mass. nice job. The story is terrible, sensless and sadly wastes the like of Loren Green. Rated "N" for nostaligia trip ONLY.
