Not-So-Great Moments in Sports (1990)
Sports at the collegiate and professional level require drive, extremely coordinated body movements, and split-second decision making. Sometimes it all goes wrong. Hosted by sports announcer and former major league baseball catcher Tim McCarver, this compilation video features numerous moments in sports history that the participants wish they could forget. Included is the famous fumble return 60-yard dash by California's Hall of Famer "Wrong Way" Roy Riegals during the 1929 Rose Bowl game. Riegals' inadvertent score for Georgia Tech resulted in Cal's defeat, 8-7. Also covered: the tantrums of coach Bobby Knight and tennis champ John McEnroe and the disqualification of Boston Marathon winner Rosie Ruiz, who was caught cheating. Host McCarver, who as a baseball player had the nickname of "Buckethead," experienced his own not-so-great-moment as an athlete. It was July 4th, 1976. While playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, McCarver botched a grand slam when he was called out after passing one of his team's runners while circling the bases. ~ Steve Blackburn, Rovi
