Tim Kirkman wrote and directed Loggerheads, a film that follows three different storylines that all transpire over the course of a Mother's Day weekend, but take place at different times. One of the stories features a man who arrives in a coastal North Carolina town in order to preserve turtles that are endangered. He becomes involved with a local businessman and must decide where he feels in his heart that he belongs. A second story concerns a woman who begins to feel her small-town changing in ways that frighten her. She must face these changing social realities while constantly listening to the speeches of her minister husband. The third storyline involves a woman who intends to spend the weekend celebrating the holiday with her own mother while also attempting to make contact with the child she gave up for adoption years before. Loggerheads was a selection at the 2005 Sundance Film Festival. ~ Perry Seibert, Rovi

Let's face it folks, most gay cinema sucks, why?? Not sure, but this film is a breath of fresh air. Nicely written, directed and acted, I completely enjoyed this film. If you are a fan of good films, even though they may have a gay or homoerotic subtext, check this out for sure, and also "Mysterious Skin"

This turned out to be very good. It is basically 3 stories about the same person. A family that gave him up for adoption, the family who adopted him and the boyfriend this guy finally has. I didn't like the ending because it seemed like a flashforward. If it weren't for that, I would have rated this a 5.

Low budget film with a story adapted from a true story. Subject matter is very touching. Will recommend highly to watch it.

Sweet and beautifully acted. You actually experience the emotions taking place. The principal characters lives' intersect on a time-line which twists and turns with the unpredictability of the plot. Each character is 3 dimensional and fleshed out. The soundtrack includes a few stirringly poignant pieces sung by Patty Griffin. 'Loggerheads' courses as purposefully and as naturally as the turtle it's named for does in the water. Tim Kirkman's masterful writing and sensitive direction will have you in tears well before the unforeseeable outcomes.

A fine movie, sensitively written and acted, displays in subtle tones the complex richness of lives that have depth, sorrow, and meaning built into them. Much too rich to be called a melodrama, it is still full of regret about doing the wrong things sometimes, not doing enough at other times, and finally doing the right things, but too late. It is Mark's story, seen through three different points-of-view, from its beginning to its end. It is a very moving story.

This is one of those movie that nobody has heard of, but could make it on word of mouth. Although the storyline is a bit predictable, it will still capture you. The acting is amazing (especialy Bonnie Hunt and Tess Harper). To dismiss this as a "gay movie" would be doing it an injustice. Yes, two gay males are the center of the plot, but it does not run the movie. Three different storylines parallel each other until they come together at the end, intersecting beautifully. I recommend this movie to all people, gay or straight.

A poetic movie that quietly builds to a satisfying conclusion, LOGGERHEADS deals with prejudice, family (adopted, birth, and extended) & those turtles of the title. (It also juggles three time-frames, and if you don’t pay attention to the particular scene that introduces each with a year shown, you may be confused.) In a large ensemble cast, there is not be a character with whom you can't identify and care about to some extent--even the uptight, homophobic preacher, nicely played by Chris Sarandon. Writer/director Tim Kirkman so scrupulously maintains his grip on place, person and story, adding layer after subtle layer, that, by the end as the various strands come together, you may find, as I did, that there is no need for melodrama, feel-good reunions, gratuitous tear-shedding or tiresome over-explanation. So carefully has Kirkman built his story that viewers are primed to make the final connections on their own--turning "Loggerheads" into that rare film fit for adult viewing.

I was surprised by this movie. I expected some melodrama, tear-jerker full of sappy scenes and a trite ending. Quite the opposite is true. This is a great story of prejudice, family, strength of character. The only thing was the time of the three stories. It is easy to miss that the story of the main character is happening in a different time. The ending is the only time that you see the "present." That leaves a great deal of "closure" for the viewer to imagine. It's a refreshingly subtle ending. Terrific performances and a great story.

This movie review says it is about adult situations. I was not ready for a homosexual experience. I think it should have been mentioned somewhere. I do not enjoy watching two people of the same sex kiss. It was an interesting story line. But I think the kissing could have been left out and them in bed together. You could leave somethings to the imagination.
