The sensationalistic murder of diet guru Dr. Herman Tarnower is explored in this stylized take on the tabloid cover story from first-time director Phyllis Nagy. As the inventor of the popular "Scarsdale Diet," Dr. Herman Tarnower (Ben Kingsley) became an overnight success during the peak of the early '80s diet craze. Despite the popularity of the Dr. Tarnower's revolutionary "lose one pound per day" diet, the womanizing ways of the Casanova cardiologist would soon come to a brutal end at the hands of his jealous, prescription drug-addicted lover Jean Harris (Annette Bening). Driven to despair after their 14-year romance failed to result in marriage and enraged by Dr. Tarnower's shameless status as a ladies' man, Harris confronts her former lover in one violent, final act of desperation. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

It was okay. Very choppy format, which I didn't enjoy. Still a somewhat fascinating story.

Annette Bening and Ben Kingsley did a marvelous job portraying a pair of very repressed and dysfunctional characters. That said, this was a fairly dark and depressing movie, made even more so by the fact that it was based on actual events. Definitely not for a relaxing evening's entertainment.

Annette Benning's perfomance was good, she always plays very neurotic characters very well. The movie as a whole wasn't good at all. It was very dull.

Couldn't finish it, definitely a "made for TV" type movie. The acting was fair, but the storyline / presentation was not worth the effort.

Great actor, and actress. I was surprised to find it a true story.

As good as Annette Bening & Ben Kingsley are in this HBO bio-film of an event (rather than of people, as was the company's earlier "Warm Springs" or "The Life and Death of Peter Sellars"), MRS. HARRIS is finally way too bland & uninteresting to merit the time spent. Though it details the enormously unhealthy relationship between the (in)famous Scarsdale diet doc and his mistress of several years, it doesn’t do much more than take us over the same tired ground we already know. Crappy relationships ought to be more awful, or maybe more fun, or at least less tiresome than what we see here. That the made-for-cable movie received some Emmy nominations (most foolishly for Ellen Burstyn's "gone in 60 seconds" role) must indicate that this was something less than a banner year for TV. Perhaps writer/director Phyllis Nagy, whose first film this is as director (she's co-written another one--"Found in the Street"--that I don't think was ever released), was not the best choice for either task.

Hard to get into either of the charaters. Movie really didn't hold my attention perhaps because I didn't care about these people. I enjoy both of the actors just not their characters.
