Private eye Harry Moseby (Gene Hackman) is dedicated to his job, but his dedication does not make him happy or powerful in his personal life, and his wife (Susan Clark) is cheating on him. Aging actress Arlene Iverson (Janet Ward) hires Harry to find her trust-funded daughter Delly (Melanie Griffith), distracting Harry from his marital problems as he tracks the lascivious runaway teen to Florida. In the Keys, Harry has an affair of his own with Paula (Jennifer Warren), and he succeeds in locating Delly, even as he learns that finding her is only the beginning of a much larger case. As the "accidental" deaths multiply, Harry discovers that everyone has his or her own motives and that he cannot do much to stem the tide of deep-seated depravity. ~ Lucia Bozzola, Rovi

...but the script was what it was. If you are into nice breasts, this is a decent movie for you. If you are more into an understandable plot, then perhaps you should pass. My wife and I kept wondering when the point of the story was finally going to be revealed. I eventually was, in about the last 5 minutes of the tale.

A decent private eye film with a little violence and more thinking about sex than sex scenes. This is one of Melanie Griffith's first roles and she really stretched her art playing the part of a self destructive, oversexed teenager. It is also one of James Woods' first, as a wacko mechanic. The story is good and the acting is first rate. There is a lot of pondering that Gene Hackman thought was acting back in those days, but that is probably Arthur Penn trying to show that the movie is more than entertainment. That and a consistent problem with motivation reduces my rating by a star.

Three of us have viewed this movie and all three of us concluded that it was a strange movie. It is worth watching, but I would not request to see it again.

Worth watching. A little slow in places but Hackman does a fine job.

Gene Hackman, Melanie Griffith and Arthur Penn - with this talent, should be a good movie, right? Turns out to be a real disappointment - gets pretty close to being a noirish success, but in the end not much better than the made for TV movies that Universal cranked out in the 1970s and 1980s. Hackman is great, but even he can't save this turkey.

This is a decent, if slightly disappointing, private eye movie. The plot was a little bit complicated, but not impossible to follow. I would recommend watching it once, if for no other reason, just to see Gene Hackman, James Woods and Melanie Griffith way back in 1975.

You have to pay close attention to this movie. It seemed slow-moving, but the director obviously didn't want it predictable. Great acting all around.

Average detective yarn with Hackman providing a solid performance as detective Harry Moseby. Not a great film but kept me intrigued till the end.

hard to believe that gene hackman got to be a star by doing movies like this. very amatuer all the way around. gene hackman was good, but the story was weird and I didn't get the ending. i liked seing his wife nekkid. surprised that everybody didn't have a cigarette in their mouth all the time, like they did back then.

This is a very recommendable thriller in which we get to see one of the greatest actors of the late 20th century in his prime. Any Gene Hackman fan should know this movie.
