Written and directed by the ever-unpredictable Jim Jarmusch, Mystery Train is comprised of three short anecdotes involving foreign tourists in Tennessee. Each story is set in a fleabag Memphis hotel which has been redressed as a "tribute" to Elvis Presley. Story one involves two Japanese tourists whose devotion to '50s American rock music blinds them to everything around them. Story two finds eternal victim Luisa (Nicoletta Braschi) sharing a room with stone-broke Dee Dee (Elizabeth Bracco) and having her problems solved by a spectral vision of the King. And story three offers the further misadventures of Dee Dee, her no-good boyfriend, and her dysfunctional family. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This was a tightly woven, but low-action film. Great interconnected stories about people with very little connection except a hotel in a pretty shabby part of Memphis (as compared to the rest of shabby old Memphis). Low key but entertaining.

This strange but intriguing tale of three stories crossing at a flea-bag motel was oddly compelling. I must admit that I was annoyed that the dvd did not have an english subtitle option. the first story about a Japanese couple was difficult to follow without knowing what they were saying in Japanese. It was interesting how the story lines crossed.

In the nut shell: 3 separate stories all set in Memphis. Yes, there is a train.....how some get to Memphis, but there's no mystery. Story # 1. Japanese couple want to visit Gracland and fight over was better Elvis, or Carl Perkins. Story # 2. Russian dame misses plane spends the night at flea bag hotel with another female stranger and sees a famous Icons ghost.....can you guess who? Story # 3. Three bozos get drunk and rent a room. They drink, and drink and drink. Next day one has accident with a gun. Trust me all 3 stories are about as interesting as watching the motel crumble in elapsed time!!! Don't waste your rentals on this one, unless you really, really, love slow indi flicks that go nowhere real fast!!!

Watching paint dry is more interesting than this movie.

An interesting juxtaposition of cultures and circumstances with a well-paced delivery, great dialogue and a cleverly layered set of coinciding events, not to mentioned artful cinematography that really shines on BluRay.

Probably the worst movie I've ever finished (which was a mistake). I kept hoping it would improve but it never did. Learn from my mistake & don't waste your time on this one.

I found Mystery Train just as funny on blu-ray as when I saw it in the theaters over 20 years ago. The deadpan humor and irony are great and it is not at all dated.

Great acting by every person in the movie. Impossible to turn it off once the young Japanese kids coming in by train to see Sun Studios and Graceland get into an argument about whether Carl Perkins was better than Elvis. Very funny! All three subplots were very interesting with the two hotel people (manager - Screaming Jay Hawkins) turning in superb performances tying things together. I will need to watch it again.

Three stories... The Japanese one was hilarious. Being unable to understand what they were saying just added to it. If you have ever been in a situation where you don't understand a word but know what they are saying, you know what I mean. The other two stories were so-so.

I really liked this movie and was interested the entire time. But how could the publisher NOT put English subtitles for the Japanese portion? I had to turn on the Spanish subtitles to find out what they were saying. If you don't know French, Spanish, or Japanese you will miss the first 35 minutes of the dialog.
