VH1 (Inside) Out: Warren Zevon - Keep Me in Your Heart (2003)

In the summer of 2002, Warren Zevon, a singer and songwriter whose darkly witty songs had earned him a sizable cult following (and whose hit single "Werewolves of London" briefly made him a pop star), was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a virulent and inoperable form of lung cancer. Initially informed that he had as little as three months to live, Zevon decided to deal with his dire condition in the best way he knew how -- by heading into the studio to write and record a final album in the time he had left. Zevon called upon a number of friends and former collaborators to assist him on the project, and a camera crew from the VH1 cable network was on hand to document the proceedings as Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Don Henley, Dwight Yoakam, Jackson Browne, and many others stopped by to lend their talents to the making of The Wind. VH1 (Inside) Out: Warren Zevon -- Keep Me in Your Heart also features footage of Zevon visiting his doctors, sharing moments with his children, visiting old friends for the last time, and appearing on television with his pal and longtime supporter David Letterman. Billy Bob Thornton, a friend of Zevon's who appears on The Wind, narrates the documentary. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

of the transcience of life and the brilliance of his talent. Zevon was/is loved and covered by many of the greats in rock and roll. The idea to create and document the making of an album during what he knew would be the last days of his life exhibits Zevon's typical openness, bravery and cutting edge thinking. (Life is art; art is life.) This was originally recorded for VH1, but stands up well as a documentary film piece.

I watched this on VH1 when it came out. I needed to watch it again. I truly miss the artist Warren Zevon. Brilliant Composer and Musician. Pity that Werewolves is just about the only thing the radio plays. I wholly suggest checking this video out. Please recommend him for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

This is a beautiful movie and a must see for any Zevon fan. My brother, who was a musician and a Zevon fan recently passed. I did not expect the movie to be the telling of the end of his life (it covers the period from when Warren is diagnosed until he dies). I am also a grief/loss therapist and found much healing in this movie. For me, the story of Warren's integrity, the love and honor of his friends (Jackson Browne, Bruce Springfield, Don Henley, Ry Cooder, Timothy B. Schmidt) and his honesty as he faces death and continues to LIVE his life TO THE FULLEST is inspiring, and has a very strong spiritual message no matter what your beliefs. It's also just a great music video, with awesome musical performances.

My favorite documentary of ALL TIME!! It is awesome..he never got enough credit for the genius he was and I feel like for all those Zevon fans out there, this is a goodbye to the greatest songwriter/performer in history. I laughed, I cried, I watched several times in a row and still want to see it again!!
