Murder (1930)
Member Rating:
Alfred Hitchcock's second all-talkie thriller, Murder stars Herbert Marshall as pompous actor-manager Sir John Menier, a send-up of George DuMaurier. Summoned for jury duty, Sir John is one of 12 people who must decide the fate of Diana Baring (Norah Baring), a young actress on trial for murder. Though the girl is found guilty, Sir John believes that she's innocent and sets about to prove it on his own, exercising his actor's prerogative of adopting clever disguises in the course of his investigation. Along the way, he is obliged to entertain a pair of lower-class clods, Ted and Dulcie Markham (Edward Chapman and Phyllis Konstam), who help him stage an elaborate re-enactment of the crime. Based on Enter Sir John, a novel and play by Clemence Dane and Helen Simpson, Murder was simultaneously filmed in a German version, with Alfred Abel replacing Herbert Marshall. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

not my favorite hitch movie... it wasn't bad, really, but by hitch standards, it was merely okay. the quality of the film was pretty poor. the camera was shaky a lot and there were a lot of times when it would like fade out of the scene and fade back in almost like they didn't even know about it. it was an okay plotline and such, and i thought it was well casted. norah baring was stunningly beautiful. if you like vintage movies or hitch movies, i recommend it.

Editing is abysmal. Sound quality on the DVD is so bad that I couldn't tell what was going on and there are no English subtitles. Possibly a good movie but this DVD is not worth the time.

I did not receive 'Murder,' but a 4-episode disc in the 'Alfred Hitchc*ck [a NETFLIX editing note demands I "remove offensive words from your review & review title] Presents' series, and I'd already seen two of the episodes on more elaborate compilations. While the disc description is for the 1930 film 'Murder,' in my Queue the disc appeared as a 'bonus' to part of a compilation, so it does not seem to be simply a shipping error, but one of wrong classification.
