When Kyle LeBlanc (Jean-Claude Van Damme) is prosecuted for killing the man who murdered his wife, he is sent to the most notoriously violent prison in Eastern Europe, where brutality is an understatement. Guards force the prisoners into death matches for their own personal profit, and the already violent inmates are provoked until they're barely recognizable as human beings. Though Kyle initially holds nothing but contempt for his fellow cell mates, it isn't long before their rage takes root in his own mind. When it's his turn to fight, channeling that rage may be the only chance he has at survival. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

This movie was okay however I didn't like seeing Jean claude van damme get his but beat through the whole movie. The preview makes you think he gets tired of the beatings and gets busy.

Awesome movie, loved the part where Van Dammes weak little friend dies because he got rapped to hard. "He beat me, he beat me all night...but i didn't kiss him." LOL

When I first read the title, I figured it was an allegory for Van Damme's many divorce trials. Instead, it seems his ex-wives produced this movie, because Van Damme spends the first 2/3 of the movie beaten to a bloody pulp. I have never seen Van Damme, or any major star, pummeled this often. He just plays a regular guy (I believe he's a miner or factory worker of some sort); no former martial arts master, ex-cop, Special Forces, and he responds how a regular guy would if he were placed in a hellhole Russian prison, demoralized and in fear. There are great humourous scenes where Van Damme basically looks and behaves like a caveman (with full beard), biting some flesh out of the neck of one prisoner in one instance. Lawrence Taylor (the NY Giant great) makes a sizeable cameo, and the scene where he stares at Van Damme when he's using the toilet is worth the price of rental alone. One of the better B action movies out there.

In Hell was actually pretty good. one of JC's best movies that he has done direct to video. Good story, good acting, good fights. ringo lam and Van Damme make a good team.

I had heard about Jean-Claude having to really act in this movie. Supposedly, in interviews, he had said that this director really challenges him. Well, I guess not enough. doesn't really have a well thought out plot(of course) and the acting isn't anything to write home about. However, if your still a Van Damme fan; you must check out Wake of Death. WOW!
