Just after the evil Emperor Spengo (Jon Lovitz) imprisons King Raff (Eric Idle), he spots a California housewife (Teri Garr) through his telescope. He decides to beam her up along with her husband (Jeffrey Jones), but isn't prepared to deal with the results when both become interplanetary freedom fighters. ~ John Bush, Rovi
What nudity? What violence? What profanity? Why not suitable for children? Granted, most Eric Idle (Monty Python) is on the adult side of humor and this film is no exception, but it is certainly not as threateningy frightening as Time Bandits! I've watched this film several times and have always enjoyed its ludicrous nature. Lovitz is great as the idiot ruler of a planet full of idiots. The humor is right up Jeffrey Jones' alley and he was perfect as the wimpish Dad and for once, Teri Garr didn't irritate me as Mom. Picture quality/transfer was surpisingly good and I loved the James Horner soundtrack. I won't give this more than 3-1/2 stars, but if you like obvious idiocy, you'll probably enjoy this one.
I thought this movie was very original and funny. Emperor Tod couldn't have looked more ridiculous. The movie made me miss all the cheesy 80's flicks I saw as a kid.
If you like classic idiot movies, then this is the best. Who better to play a moron ruler of the smallest little stupid planet with stupid people, than John Lovitz. The best idot actor ever. I was suprised that this movie has made it to dvd cause I didnt think that as many people like it as much I do and it was made in 92 so obviously people do like it enough for them to rerelease it on dvd. This movie has john lovitz acting like a moron that is so conceded and forcing his will on terrie garr. This is a great movie for kids also. This movie is somewhat similar to Coneheads in that it is a little stupid and deal with aliens??? It is not just plain dumb like Cabin boy? it is funny stupid humor watch the clip and you will see. It is not the best parts of the movie but you will get the idea.
An fairly entertaining film with funny scenes- even a few of them were unintentional(?)-maybe. It comes close to being an family film(almost).
The main villain was hilarious in his role. But I think that Thalmus Rasulala - General Afir was the highlight of the film.....I kept debating rather to give it a 3 1/2 or a 4 so I flipped a coin.
If there was a law against being toooooo cute, they would still be in jail now. This one takes you on a journey of hilarious adventure, as a disfunctional couple must fight to save the world, after they are wisked away to a distant world. Fourtanely, their captors are not too high on I.Q points, so our heroes just might have a chance.
A one of a kind comedy, with several heart felt moments also. I highly recomend this one.
