A female detective on the trail of a psychotic killer discovers love in a dangerous time in this thriller, based on the novel by Michael Pye. Illeana Scott (Angelina Jolie) is a special agent with the FBI who has a reputation for using offbeat methods, but also boasts a strong record as a criminal profiler. Scott is called in by a former Quantico colleague (Tcheky Karyo) to assist two Canadian police detectives, Paquette (Olivier Martinez) and Duval (Jean-Hugues Anglade), who are on the trail of a serial killer who has been doing business in and around Montreal for close to two decades. The murderer has a history of assimilating many aspects of the lives of his victims after he kills them, but there's been a witness to his most recent crime. Art gallery owner James Costa (Ethan Hawke) saw the killer during an assault, and now finds himself working as an only marginally willing decoy for Scott. As Scott and Costa follow the killer's trail, they find themselves becoming attracted to one another, which is not necessarily a comfort to Scott as she finds her quarry moving closer and closer. Taking Lives also stars Kiefer Sutherland and Gena Rowlands. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

I loved this film! The plot kept my attention, with unexpected twists I never saw coming, right up to the highly satisfying ending. Very much recommended!

I enjoyed this movie and saw it twice. I think Jolie is a much better actress in action movies. Suspenseful from the very beginning, this movie's end will surprise you. She is sexy, caring and smart except for one vital mistake!

The movie had a few twists but was predictable at the end. It was worth the rental price.

this movie was misclassified to me as a psycho-thriller....it is WAY too gross, freaky, gorey and twisted to be a such. for those who hate horror, consider it on that side of the line.

I was unable to get the Blu-Ray version to play on a new Sony BDS360 player. I updated the firmware and it still wouldn't even recognize the disk. The disk looked brand new with no scratches or markings. The player has not had problems with any other Blu-Ray disks. Maybe just a bad disk. or maybe it's an incompatibility problem with Sony players.

Acting is mediocre at best - you can actually see Jolie and Hawke nearly loosing their focus in what should be serious scenes, and the one Canadian detective, pretty boy, is just a terrible actor. The Plot, while simple, believable, and easy to follow has so many holes in it, they actually fool the audience deliberately a few times to keep the charade going. If you are infatuated with Angelina Jolie or obsessed with Serial Killer movies you will enjoy this. If you are looking for strong acting and filmmaking, look elsewhere.
