Directed by Taylor Hackford, this biopic profiles the life of legendary musician Ray Charles. Despite humble beginnings and the loss of his eyesight due to glaucoma at the age of six, Charles, depicted by Jamie Foxx, would nonetheless become an icon in both the music industry and the civil rights era. While the film delves into his problems with drugs and women, the bulk of the story details his career; among the highlights of that career are 12 Grammy awards and 11 R&B chart-toppers, such as "Unchain My Heart," "Hit the Road, Jack," "Georgia," "Doin' the Mess Around," and "Hallelujah I Just Love Her So." Also among the cast are Larenz Tate as Quincy Jones, as well as Regina King, Kerry Washington, and Clifton Powell. Charles' son, Ray Charles Jr. helped produce the film. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

Jamie Foxx did an outstanding job in this movie along with his supporting cast. If it wasn't for the actors being so incredible, this movie would have been a sure bust. I was not impressed with the script at all; bored comes to mind actually. There was zero cultural and not enough emphasis on Ray's music. Great job Jamie Fox, too bad Hackford failed you with the directing.

This movie was AMAZING! I learned so much about the man, it was incredible. I'm sure even some of his close friends learned alot about him in this movie. It was so close to his life story and his childhood, it was amazing! I had NO IDEA Jamie Foxx would do this movie so much justice, I really belived he was Ray while I was watching the movie, I was so involved.

Ray Charles was a musical Genius. Jamie Foxx portrayed Ray Charles magnificently. I did not like the drugs usage and all the women, but that was part of Ray Charles Robinson’s life.

All i can say is 10! Jamie Fox was extrodinary. The feel of the whole movie, he draws you in and lifts you up and down. Then in the end of the movie when he meets his mother after she has been dead for years, it actually put a tear in my eye. I recomend this movie to any one, and it's defintly worth putting in any collection. a 10 out of 10.

I basically grew up with Ray Charles music running through out my life. But I really did not know anything much about Ray Charles and his life story. I figured the movie would portray him as a blind and black man trying to make it in the music world. Which was what it was about, but also showed the troubled life he led as a drug user and womanizer. The actress who also portrays his wife deserves kudos for her portrayal of his tortured spouse. I haven't really seen any of the other movies with the actors up for an Academy Award. But I do believe that Jamie has probably given them a run for the honor. We will see by this Sunday who the winner will be.

More than a mere impersonanation - Jamie Fox does a brilliant and honest character study of Ray Charles.

The performances were outstanding, and it goes without saying that the music was also outstanding. Well worth watching.

Jamie Fox carried this movie, and was excellent. Ray Charles became a great musician and performer. His perfomance life attracted thousands of fans, but there was certainly a dark side behind his public persona. The movie showed how people used him, and how he used people. I'm glad this movie showed both sides of him and wasn't just a fawning biopic.
