Directed by Taylor Hackford, this biopic profiles the life of legendary musician Ray Charles. Despite humble beginnings and the loss of his eyesight due to glaucoma at the age of six, Charles, depicted by Jamie Foxx, would nonetheless become an icon in both the music industry and the civil rights era. While the film delves into his problems with drugs and women, the bulk of the story details his career; among the highlights of that career are 12 Grammy awards and 11 R&B chart-toppers, such as "Unchain My Heart," "Hit the Road, Jack," "Georgia," "Doin' the Mess Around," and "Hallelujah I Just Love Her So." Also among the cast are Larenz Tate as Quincy Jones, as well as Regina King, Kerry Washington, and Clifton Powell. Charles' son, Ray Charles Jr. helped produce the film. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

Jamie Foxx brings Ray to life again. This was the once in a lifetime role that Jamie Foxx was meant to play. While watching this movie, I had to keep telling myself that it was Jamie Foxx, not Ray Charles, acting in this movie. Jamie Foxx deserved his acadamy award for this movie. What a pleasure to watch a truly outstanding movie for a change. It's good to know that movies of this caliber can still be made today!

Wow!! What a life Ray Charles lived and Jamie Foxx captured it on the big screen. I never knew the meaning behind some of Mr. Charles songs and it was interesting to see how they came about out of real-life situations. I thought all of the acting was great! I especially liked the young women who portrayed his wife and his mom. Very strong, convincing roles. A must-see movie!!!

Saw this movie and was blown away! Loved every minute of it. Was brought to tears several times. The parental guidance and support you receive can be so critical to who you become. I feel his mother gave him the foundation to realize his full potential and have an incredible life. A wonderful movie that was beautifully executed by Jamie Foxx. By the way, Jamie Foxx outshined Tom Cruise in Collateral.

More than a mere impersonanation - Jamie Fox does a brilliant and honest character study of Ray Charles.

The performances were outstanding, and it goes without saying that the music was also outstanding. Well worth watching.

Jamie Fox carried this movie, and was excellent. Ray Charles became a great musician and performer. His perfomance life attracted thousands of fans, but there was certainly a dark side behind his public persona. The movie showed how people used him, and how he used people. I'm glad this movie showed both sides of him and wasn't just a fawning biopic.
