Directed by Taylor Hackford, this biopic profiles the life of legendary musician Ray Charles. Despite humble beginnings and the loss of his eyesight due to glaucoma at the age of six, Charles, depicted by Jamie Foxx, would nonetheless become an icon in both the music industry and the civil rights era. While the film delves into his problems with drugs and women, the bulk of the story details his career; among the highlights of that career are 12 Grammy awards and 11 R&B chart-toppers, such as "Unchain My Heart," "Hit the Road, Jack," "Georgia," "Doin' the Mess Around," and "Hallelujah I Just Love Her So." Also among the cast are Larenz Tate as Quincy Jones, as well as Regina King, Kerry Washington, and Clifton Powell. Charles' son, Ray Charles Jr. helped produce the film. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

J. Foxx was amazing in this movie. The life of Ray Charles was amazing. The performances are great. I was glad that all parts of his life were in the movie & it did not focus on his drug addition but his life as a musician. I didn't know that Ray Charles was also a "loverman". I don't want to give too much away. You will enjoy this movie.

Jamie Foxx was superb in his peformance. I didn't once think this was Jamie, but Ray Charles the whole time. This is a great tale of a music legend and his lifestyle most didn't know. A great fact about this movie was Ray Charles was still alive in its creation and you can see his thumb print all over it. If you appreciate great music, you must see this film.

I have to admit that I was surprised that I liked this movie. I don't like Jamie Foxx all that much -- i can't get the images of all those bad movies he's done in the past out of my head. This ended up being a great movie about a great musician. Jamie Foxx came across very real and the movie develops Ray Charles' character very well showing the man behind the music.

I was into the movie for about an hour, and was slightly bored with it, so I found something else to do. I will leave it to my husband to review. Loved it! Jamie Foxx was terrific, the storyine was great, the 2 1/2 hours went by quickly because the movie was so interesting, and the music was incredible. My wife found it boring, but I think most people will agree with me. I give it a big WOW!

... it's true that at some point in the movie the line gets blurred between Jamie and Ray Charles. He really became the man. Other than that though I was disappointed. I think it was a case of too much hype before seeing it.

I think I went through every emotion during this movie. All of the scenes about his brother made me cry, its just the new mom in me I guess. I didn't notice it being too long because I watched half during nap time and the rest in the evening. I was never a Ray Charles fan...but his story is interesting. Even if you are not a fan you should watch this just to see Jamie Foxx's performance.

This was a great movie that taught me so much about Ray Charles. Jamie Foxx deserves many awards for his performance. It is by far his best work yet! I would encourage everyone to see this movie!

More than a mere impersonanation - Jamie Fox does a brilliant and honest character study of Ray Charles.

The performances were outstanding, and it goes without saying that the music was also outstanding. Well worth watching.

Jamie Fox carried this movie, and was excellent. Ray Charles became a great musician and performer. His perfomance life attracted thousands of fans, but there was certainly a dark side behind his public persona. The movie showed how people used him, and how he used people. I'm glad this movie showed both sides of him and wasn't just a fawning biopic.
