Directed by Taylor Hackford, this biopic profiles the life of legendary musician Ray Charles. Despite humble beginnings and the loss of his eyesight due to glaucoma at the age of six, Charles, depicted by Jamie Foxx, would nonetheless become an icon in both the music industry and the civil rights era. While the film delves into his problems with drugs and women, the bulk of the story details his career; among the highlights of that career are 12 Grammy awards and 11 R&B chart-toppers, such as "Unchain My Heart," "Hit the Road, Jack," "Georgia," "Doin' the Mess Around," and "Hallelujah I Just Love Her So." Also among the cast are Larenz Tate as Quincy Jones, as well as Regina King, Kerry Washington, and Clifton Powell. Charles' son, Ray Charles Jr. helped produce the film. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

When someone tells you it ain't gonna get any better than this, they were talking about " Ray " this movie. Many have said that Ray was the best films I ever saw. When someone makes a biopic of Ray Charles, the Genius of Soul and it turns out this great all you can say is Thank the Lord , and Amen. But when you have a person that can act as well as Jamie Fox played Ray Charles words don't do justice and awards are trivial. So go on and listen to him play that music for two and a half hours and remember it ain't gonna get any better than this.

More than a mere impersonanation - Jamie Fox does a brilliant and honest character study of Ray Charles.

The performances were outstanding, and it goes without saying that the music was also outstanding. Well worth watching.

Jamie Fox carried this movie, and was excellent. Ray Charles became a great musician and performer. His perfomance life attracted thousands of fans, but there was certainly a dark side behind his public persona. The movie showed how people used him, and how he used people. I'm glad this movie showed both sides of him and wasn't just a fawning biopic.
