Directed by Brad Bird, The Incredibles revolves around former high-profile superhero Bob Parr (aka Mr. Incredible), who has not-so-successfully settled into suburban life along with his wife and kids under the watchful eye of the Superhero Protection Program. A far cry from the "glory days" during which "supers" were a welcome addition to society, the Parrs' living situation was brought on after a series of superhero-related lawsuits forced them into hiding. When not trying to fight small-time crime undercover with fellow former superhero Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson), Parr (voice by Craig T. Nelson) is muddling through the corporate world as a paunchy, emotionally unsatisfied insurance claims adjuster. His family is like any other with some notable exceptions -- his daughter has the uncanny ability to become invisible and create impenetrable force fields at will; his son, Dash, can run at incredible speeds; his wife, Helen (Holly Hunter), is known in super circles as Elastigirl, one of the most respected (and pliable) superwomen of her time. Just when it looks as if things can't get any worse for Bob, he gets a summons to show up at a remote island to receive instructions for a highly classified assignment, which he promptly accepts. This was clever and SMART and hilarious and so much FUN! An excellent story about a family of super heros who are in hiding by the government and are NOT to practice their super powers any longer nor are any other super heros in the world. There is a lesson tucked away in there somewhere - but that was secondary to just having a great time. Holly Hunter's distinctive voice lends itself so well to animation. The message in this most enjoyable animated film is that the biggest super power of all is the Power of Love. Uniting with others in the name of love is the greatest strength of all. I loved this and look forward to another Incredibles movie real soon. "i"!

Warm and family friendly but still with enough spunk and with to entertain the adult audiences as well. A definite plus to any home film collection sure to be viewed time and time. Retired superheroe struggling against his superskills to lead a not so super life leaps at the opportunity to begin super work anew...But holy back-stabbing, something cannot be right! The Edith Head like fashion designer is too comical!

While not quite up with the greatest of the Pixar films (Up, Wall-e, Nemo, etc.) This is still smart, inventive and tremendous fun, with some humanity thrown in to boot. Certainly a lot more fun than any of the James Bond or Superhero films of recent vintage which it spoofs (and with more exciting action besides!). In an alternate universe, Superheroes are told to stop being, well, super, because of the risk of law suits and other problems. But some just can’t get the urge to fight crime out of their blood. Like Mr. Incredible. He loves being a family man (a family who also all have super powers) but a 9-5 job in an ugly, greedy corporate world is more than he can take. So he quietly slips back into the super-hero biz, and eventually drags the whole family in as well. All done with terrific animation, clever wordplay, great voice acting, and a nice comment or two about being ‘normal’. It gets all the balances right; humor to action to character to story.
