Angela Lansbury takes over the legacy of Margaret Rutherford as Agatha Christie's dogged sleuth Miss Marple in The Mirror Crack'd. The story takes place on a film set in a small British town in the 1950s. Elizabeth Taylor plays a washed-up actress trying to make a comeback but is plagued by a mysterious incident from her past. Unfortunately for her mental state, a collection of murders jar the quiet village where the movie is being made. Miss Marple arrives on the scene with her nephew, Inspector Craddock (Edward Fox), to investigate. In addition to Taylor, an assortment of other movie stars grace the roster of suspects, including Rock Hudson, Kim Novak, and Tony Curtis. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

The story comes from the true story of the actress Gene Tierney and her tragic life. Angela Lansbury is always an entertaining sleuth!

Totally awesome and Agatha does it again, what a cast, Taylor, Hudson and Novak -- so Hollywood tinsel all the way, great cattly lines between Liz & KIm all classic ones, my fave: Kim to Liz' " Chin up, both of them !" too funny //

Of you like Agatha Christie, you will LOVE this one. Angelea Landsbury is at her best, as are the other great actors. It kept me in suspense right to the end, and I was STUNNED at the ending. Well worth watching!

Death on the Nile is another star-studded "who-dunnit." This time, the setting is the Nile, rather than the Orient Express. Peter Ustinov takes over the role of Poirot with a humor and poignancy that Albert Finney lacked. The first part of the movie, until the time the passengers/suspects boarded the Karnac, is deadly dull, offering only the occasional plot points. Once aboard the ship, the plot, characters, and cast come together for a wild romp. Imagine Bette Davis and Maggie Smith as a comic duo; Angela Lansbury as a drunken and horny writer to name only a few. Solving the crime had me on the edge of my seat - and I STILL got it wrong. In the end, Poirot solves the crime and we see that he feels badly that the murderer made the choice that he or she (no, I'm not telling) made. I strongly recommend this movie.
