The greatest monster hunter of them all has his work cut out for him as he tracks down three deadly foes in this action-adventure saga. Gabriel Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) is a man who has dedicated his life to battling evil forces who exist outside the bounds of nature; Van Helsing's work has not always made him friends, and a false accusation of murder still trails him. But when he's summoned to Transylvania at the behest of Anna Valerious (Kate Beckinsale), whose family has been fighting supernatural beings for generations, Van Helsing wastes no time answering her call. There, Van Helsing discovers that the undying vampire Count Dracula (Richard Roxburgh) has put a misshapen creature named Igor (Kevin J. O'Connor) under his spell, and, in turn, has forged an alliance with a hideous monster (Shuler Hensley) who was created by the misguided Dr. Victor Frankenstein (Samuel West). Adding to Anna's burden is her brother, Velkan (Will Kemp), a lycanthrope who becomes a bloodthirsty wolf under the light of the full moon. Van Helsing also co-stars Elena Anaya, Silvia Colloca, and Josie Maran as Dracula's vampire brides. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

when i first saw this at the movies back in 2004 i thought it was pretty cool i've always been a fan of the original universal monsters so i purchased this when it was released but never watched again until recently and i found kind of stupid the second time around so i think its one of those movies you watch once and thats it.

Van Helsing was an unbelievable movie but enjoyable up to a point.....very good special effects.

Hugh Jackman and Kate Beckinsale are great together, any new movie with those two will be worthwhile and they also do good on their own. Supernatural is their genre and whatever they do makes it believable.

This movie is good or bad depending on how you take it. As a straight movie (which it tries to be), it's one of the most cliched, terrible pieces of crrap you could ever see. Just Hollywood cheese, to it's core. As a comedic, unserious, fun-romp, never to be taken seriously, however, it's kind of fun and you enjoy it in a popcorn sort of way. I don't give it a high score though, because instead of being taken as a "fun" movie where you suspend all disbelief, the movie tries to be "serious." And it fails horribly if you approach it that way. Just for fun, you might want to google the blog post "Is Anna Valarious the worst action heroine of all time?"

I like how they combine all the old time monsters. This is a disappointment though. This should probably be a lower rating but there are some sweet action scenes and the character of the count is good.

Special effects good, I agree, kind of James Bond'ish. Special weapons and such. Long movie, at times boring, other times exciting. Had lots of problems with Blu-Ray disc, kept freezing same scenes, had to skip lots of chapters. I wouldn't watch again.

I do not even know where to begin with explaining how bad this film truly is. Van Helsing screws up major movie monster lore. I am not even an expert in the lore of these old movie monsters, but I do know that Dracula is not just supposed to change back and fourth at will. When I see a movie I understand what it means to “suspend disbelief”, but the logic (if you can call it that) is not even based in reality in the slightest. There are moments that look like they are right out of a video game, including 1st person shooter perspectives. Not to mention the moments that look like they are paying tribute to some of Warner Brothers best Willie Coyote cartoons, compliments of The Wolf man characters (yes there is more than one). Not to mention that the ending is so bad that it does not even make you forgive the rest of the film. The worst part of all at a mere 2 hours this film feels like it will NEVER END!!!
