Bande à Part (1964)

One of pioneering director Jean-Luc Godard's most accessible films is this French spin on Dolores Hitchens' novel Fool's Gold. It tells the tale of three disaffected youths who plan a burglary, leading to deadly results. The alienated young trio is marvelous, particularly Anna Karina, and the early scenes of their clearly overdeveloped fantasy lives are splendidly handled. Something of a companion piece to Godard's classic À Bout de Souffle, its young characters have the same odd mixture of fatalism and starry-eyed naïveté that is, by turns, appealing and tragic. Trivia buffs should note that the film gave its name to Quentin Tarantino's production company (A Band Apart), and several of its scenes are echoed in his Pulp Fiction. ~ Robert Firsching, Rovi

I loved this movie. I understand why Quentin Tarantino calls it his favorite movie of all time (his production company is called "A Band Apart" after this movie). There are so many sequences in Pulp Fiction that are homage to this movie. I like the pacing and rhythm that Godard creates by having the characters move around during the dialogue (in stead of multiple cuts witht he camera). I also liked the quirkiness of the various other film referrences scattered throughout. This movie is definitely for people who really like movies, and not so much for people who just want to be entertained.

A cinematic Masterpiece! There's not much you can say to describe it, It's just that good. Definitely not for the average movie-goer. You have to be a Cinema fan in order to fully enjoy this. Not fast paced like most Hollywood productions. This Film proves Jean Luc Goddard is a Visionary.

The main reason I will not recommended this film is the morals and personalities of the characters. The woman, is a liar who betrays a woman who has shown kindness. The men are selfish, greedy and violent, and represent the lowest form of male behavior. From a scientific observational view of human behavior, this movie is accurate and consistent. I think watching this movie is a waste of time. Watching their burglary Is like watching 3 rats steal a cake. When it was over, I had a dirty feeling.
