Directed by Roland Emmerich, this mega-budget, special-effects-laden epic revolves around the onset of an international series of crises brought on by the long-term results of the greenhouse effect. At the eye of the storm is paleoclimatologist (a professor dedicated to the study of weather patterns throughout the ages) Jack Hall (Dennis Quaid), who voluntarily takes on the preservation of the world in the dawn of the next ice age and all the disaster that comes along with it -- violent hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, tidal waves, massive floods, etc. Hall must also contact his son, Sam (Jake Gyllenhaal), who was in the middle of an academic competition in New York City when the chaos begun. In addition to facing the largest-scale onslaught of natural catastrophes in the history of humankind, Jack, in his journey north, must contend with the masses fleeing south in an attempt to resettle in a warmer climate. The Day After Tomorrow also features Emmy Rossum, Sela Ward, and Joe Cobden. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

This movie blows. BUT if you go to rifftrax.com and download the humorous commentary to go with it...then it's hilarious. The special effects are fun...I never tire of seeing NYC destroyed. But otherwise - blech.

The premise of this just made this movie difficult to get into. A few cool special effects but didn't make up for very weak script and storyline. 2012 was better but not by much.

It was a good fictional movie. However, it leaves open many questions. In the Museum of Natural History when they are looking at the mammoth, they were remarking how the animal still had food in its stomach and died instantly as the air supercooled rapidly. So I guess the dinosaurs and their SUVs caused that to happen. Man-made global warming is the biggest hoax of our time. Don't let Hollywood make you think differently.

I did like the actors in this sleeper but that's where it ended.. Yet another attempt at saving the family (only this time just one stray) even though the loved one was rebellious.. I'm so tired of seeing a so-called disaster flick that's only disastrously plotted. Deliver me.

I was warned that this movie would get preachy - and it did. At times it was so cheesy that the script sounded like a long PSA from the '80s. The special effects were very well done, but the story had "money-maker blockbuster" written all over it. In other words, predictable, yet visually entertaining.

A sense of dread is the first feeling I had when I watched the opening. Yes, the filming was incredible, yes, the drama was unsettling, and yes, it's a thorough reminder of the need to respect the earth, to prepare ourselves for emergencies, and think of others, but most of all, to listen. The skill of REALLY listening, seems to be a virtue not many acquire. carol catlin
