After creating an international sensation with the visually dazzling and intellectually challenging sci-fi blockbuster The Matrix, the Wachowski brothers returned with the first of two projected sequels that pick up where the first film left off. Neo (Keanu Reeves) and Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) have been summoned by Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) to join him on a voyage to Zion, the last outpost of free human beings on Earth. Neo and Trinity's work together has been complicated by the fact the two are involved in a serious romantic relationship. Upon their arrival in Zion, Morpheus locks horns with rival Commander Lock (Harry J. Lennix) and encounters his old flame Niobe (Jada Pinkett Smith). Meanwhile, Agent Smith (Hugo Weaving) has returned with some surprises for Neo, most notably the ability to replicate himself as many times as he pleases. Neo makes his way to The Oracle (Gloria Foster), who informs him that if he wishes to save humankind, he must unlock "The Source," which means having to release The Key Maker (Randall Duk Kim) from the clutches of Merovingian (Lambert Wilson). While Merovingian refuses to cooperate, his wife, Persephone (Monica Bellucci), angry at her husband's dalliances with other women, offers to help, but only in exchange for a taste of Neo's affections. With The Keymaker in tow, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus are chased by Merovingian's henchmen: a pair of deadly albino twins (Neil Rayment and Adrian Rayment). Filmed primarily in Australia and California (the extended chase scene was shot on a stretch of highway build specifically for the production outside of San Francisco), The Matrix Reloaded was produced in tandem with the third film in the series, The Matrix Revolutions. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Yeah, Neo is bad, but some of the fight scenes go too long. It's neat cinematography and special effects, but they can be over-done. The plot is intriguing and occasionally confusing, but that's part of the Matrix allure. The highway chase is absolutely fantastic. Not as dramatic as the first, but good enough.

It is hard to make a sequel as good as the first one I think. The second 2 movies prove this. It is hard to put your finger one what is different, but the first Matrix left you in awe, and this one did not have the same effect. There is just something lacking in the last two films in this trilogy. I did enjoy this movie though. It was not as good as the first, but it was still decent and fun to watch. Good acting. Lots of action. Great insane special effects. It is a MUST see, just because once you see the first, you have to see the last two as well. 3.5 out of 5 stars for this one.

Note 1: don't even try to watch this without seeing the original Matrix first. There is no chance you will understand it. Note 2: If you rent this, you are likely to get it on a two-sided disk on the back of the original Matrix, and the only way to know this is the teeny print on the innner rim of the disk. Since the sequel makes the original Matrix seem to be worth five stars or more, my advice is to skip the sequel and watch the original movie's bonus features (which are quite interesting). Now, as for Reloaded: The original was a sci-fi movie with bits of kung-fu and humor. Reloaded spends about 80 percent of its footage on kung-fu, mostly involving Neo and the infinitely-replicating Agent Smith, which are inane even by the fantasy standards of the kung-fu genre and condsequently rather boring (and remember that they make up most of the movie). Likewise, the freeway chase scene lasted about 20 minutes too long (or did it just seem like it lasted 45 minutes?). Skip it.

Mind blowing part II. Best car chase scene I've ever seen.

Great story, great movie, awesome effects, acting, and characters. A movie to see again, and again on occassions. Most enjoyable. Must See.

The Matrix Reloaded has some good action sequences but doesn't live up to the awesome original. It's overstuffed with special effects, has almost too much silly cartoonish action, and you don't really care about the characters. The whole thing is too complex and technological for its own good.

Rarely, can you ever find a movie so great that it beats its original. Of course, its all about opinions. If you liked the first Matrix for its violent, slow motion death defying bullet dodging action, then you'd like the second one better. If you liked the first one for its awesome, complex plot, you'd STILL probably like the second one, though it does jump into the violent action without having to explain anything (my favorite quality about Matrix Reloaded). Awesome story line on this one too, and I just dont see how you people dont like it, its awesome. --Eli Olson (13)

Good movie. First one was excellent. This one just didn't compare to the first one, but still a good movie, but not a great movie.

If you want to watch the movie, select the title that does not say bonus disc.
