In remote Canada in the middle of the 19th century, 16-year-old Annie (Caroline Dhavernas) is taken from an orphanage by Simon (Brendan Fehr), a young Scot who needs a bride to help him settle his rural homestead. Upon arriving at the land Annie finds the cabin is only partially built -- they'll have to live in a tent -- and Simon's brother George (Corey Sevier) will also live there. As it happens, Simon proves to be a selfish, drunken brute who sexually abuses his young bride; George, a gentleman with an intellectual bent, can't stand to see the hateful treatment Annie undergoes at the hand of his brother -- because he's fallen in love with her. So when George returns from a hunting trip with Simon's dead body wrapped in a blanket, it doesn't look good and Annie panics even though George insists the death was an accident. A local constable, James Mullen (Paul Johansson), begins investigating after locking up Annie for safekeeping. ~ Buzz McClain, Rovi

This is an excellent well scripted drama set in a sparsely populated wilderness. Here, three people are inextricably tied together by cords roughed in brutality: lust and innocense, cruelty and kindness, and a strange final drive-by penitence. This movie at best demonstrates the kind of grit one would have to have possessed, the staunch heart and will that had to have been common to the pioneers who began new countries. All, while life incessantly beat at their doors with the threat of cold winds a-coming. See it, and be humble. The actors and portrayals are magnificent!

This a tale of two brothers who were rivals but were trying to cooperate, and a young woman stuck in the middle. The conflicts between the brothers was apparent, and became even more so as one brother and the other brother's wife became attracted to each other. A good story of passion set in a harsh environment.

The film shifts from the present to the past so many times it gets very confusing and detracts from the films overall impact. The performances are very good and it does a great job evoking the look and feel of the mid 1800's. Well photographed, great and convincing sets.

Edge of Madness (2002) is a really good movie overall. I have to say that I really liked this movie. The plot and development of this movie I have to say are very good. The acting performances delivered by Caroline Dhavernas, Brendan Fehr, Corey Sevier, etc. were very good overall. I was somewhat impressed by this particular film. The setting, background, cinematography, script, etc. have proven to be quite impressive overall in this movie. I have to say JUSTICE was done towards the finale to this movie. This movie is only intended for a MATURE AUDIENCE. Believe me! I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this movie for others of an age-appropriate audience.
