Before the conscience of the USA felt the shame of being the only nation to use the H-bomb, 1st to use germ warfare, conducting nerve gas experiments on its own citizens, the overthrow of democracies, war for profit, and civil rights injustices, was the "Age of Innocence" perfectly illustrated by "Chic" Young's comic-strip Blondie, a "white picket fence" look at married life made into 28 comedies between 1938 and 1950. Penny Singleton is Blondie, the ever-patient wife who wears the pants. Arthur Lake is a comic genius born to play Dagwood the bumbling husband. Larry Simms is Baby Dumpling whose precious quips to his best friend, Daisy the dog, bring in much of the laughter. The series is charming, appealing, uplifting and very funny. This 2 disc set contains the first 10 B&W features, each about 72 mins long, and each beginning with a short teaser. The DVD transfer quality is mostly acceptable but does contain sudden tone shifts and, at moments, can be poor especially on the 1st disc.

Loved it! Can't wait to get disc 2. The banter between the the family members is priceless and makes up for the fact that the video is not all that good at times. Made me long for the 50's when I was a kid and life was simple. -Frank-
