Originally aired on CBS, the made-for-TV holiday romance One Special Night brings together James Garner and Julie Andrews for their third feature together, after The Americanization of Emily and Victor/Victoria. Robert (Garner) visits his wife in the hospital, who is suffering from Alzheimer's disease. There he meets the stern Catherine (Andrews), a widowed pediatrician who spends her downtime visiting the room in the hospital where her husband died a year ago. In the middle of a raging snowstorm on Thanksgiving, Catherine offers Robert a ride and they get stuck in the snow. Taking refuge in an empty cabin, the couple get over their initial personality conflicts to engage in a meaningful dialogue. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi
This is one of the best movies we have ever seen. I had actually seen it on tv and told my husband about it. It wasn't scheduled to come on again so I rented it from Blockbuster. There are not many movies out there I want to watch again and again but One Special Night is one of those. My husband has not stopped talking about it. I do believe I will have to buy it he loved it so much. It is clean and funny and that seems to be a rare combination anymore. Thanks for a great movie rental.
A sweet little movie without much in the way of surprises. The two stars are worth watching, of course, and the supporting cast doesn't get in the way too much. It's a warm, comfortable kind of romantic movie to curl up on the couch with your significant other and enjoy without apologies.
I like this movie! It will probably relate more to the "older crowd" but who can resist James Garner and Julie Andrews! Well acted, great story, and I enjoy it every time I watch it. I highly recommend this one.
