This movie draws you into a mythic story in a powerful way. You don't understand it all, but it speaks on many levels, and has a dramatic force similar to great Shakespeare. The second half of the movie unpacks all the careful preparations of the first half. Don't try to watch it all in one sitting!

A superlative rendition of the epic poem which is still enjoyed in India, thousands of years after it was written. Comparing this to Shakespeare is like comparing clay to gold (as much as I like Shakespeare)... The producer intentionally cast actors from all over the world... It's been in my q u e u e over a year. Guess I'll have to buy it.

Seems like the director has made this Movie just by reading a novel of Maha Bharat without having a single clue of how Indians look, their Aryan heritage and how the characters of Mahabharat would appear to be. It is shameful to see that a Kungfu master has shown to be the master - Drona. I guess, the director wanted to show the most ugly faces and poorest of Indian Kings and Prince living in mud houses where aa history has evidences that these Prince and Kings used to live in Gold palaces and loaded with gold and emralds unlike the rags shown in Peter Brook's ugly Mahabharat.

I have always been intersted in Mahbharata and since it is so large in volumes and most of it not translated into english. I thought this would be helpful. I guess I did not realize this movie was very mucy in a play format, which could have been ok, but difficult to get into and just littly to strange... I forced myself to watch it as I had been wanting to see it for so long.
