Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon team for the third time in this fact-based biography directed by Mervyn Leroy, based on Eve Curie's book about her mother. In early 1900s Paris, poor Polish student Marie (Greer Garson) gets a chance to study magnetism with kindly professor Jean Perot (Albert Basserman). Perot also arranges for the shy scientist Pierre Curie (Walter Pidgeon) to share the lab with Marie. As they work together, Pierre and Marie fall in love. Pierre eventually musters up the courage to ask her to marry him, and she accepts. After their honeymoon, Marie becomes obsessed with a piece of pitchblende that has been displaying some peculiar properties. After five years of work, Marie discovers radium. But as the years go on, Marie and Pierre struggle to raise money to continue their research, hoping to one day be able to isolate radium from the pitchblende. ~ Paul Brenner, Rovi

This is the first time when I'd seen Madame Curie.I was impressed by Greer Garson. This film also give more information about science , especially the work of a woman in science. I was interested. Good film.

Madame Curie is an exceptional movie not only for the understanding of the important scientific breakthrough but also for the importance of women in science. Great acting.

As in their other films, Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon have fantastic chemistry and compliment each other well on the screen. The film itself is a great homage to Marie Curie. Definitely worth watching!

A bit slow moving but interesting bio- about the work struggles and relationship of the famous Curies. Gives a bit more credit to science at the end than warranted (i.e., that it will eventually solve all mankind's problems).

Greer Garson is one of my all-time favorite actresses. She has a full range of expression and a remarkable poise, and has acted in movies that capture the flavor of different historical periods, touching upon issues of early feminism, global conflict, scientific revolution, and social class with the a winsome character that attracts viewers of all ages. Madame Curie is a slow-moving film, but then again so was the namesake's research. Lol. Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon certainly do the story justice. I would recommend it to any fan of black-and-white movies, feminist movies, and movie lovers in general. :-)

The was hands down one of my favorite movies... especially because the actress worked so hard to go to college and was very successful with her determination and motivation to discover the new metal and also the receive the nobel peace prize.. I had no idea that her work was so meticolous or dedicated. She certainly had a path to be fulfilled. Very educational for me, maybe because i am in the science field as a nurse.
