Quiet as it's kept, overall this is one of the best movies ever made! It's just low budget, that's all! It's right up there with Casablanca and The Wizard of Oz. It has a strange, real, fairy tale like quality. It's packed with action! A very good screenplay and moves along swiftly. You will watch this movie twice, back to back!. This movie is really about Goldie who becomes a pimp, and not necessarily all about pimping. Surprisingly, it has a lot of depth, and the score by Willie Hutch is excellent! And the quirky , best part about this movie is there's practically no sex scenes! and in case you don't know, this is a CULT FILM! Now I'm through talking!( Superfly)

The Mack (1973), probably one of the most referenced movies in the hip hop culture, on appearance has all the qualities of a blaxploitation film, but a closer and thoughtful look might give you a different opinion. The Mack presents a portrait taken in time of a particular lifestyle not many ever get to see.The actors and actresses in this movie are all wonderful. Max Juilen shines as Goldie but honorable mention should go to Richard Pryor. If anybody knows about such subject matter it would definately be him. Pryor seemed more relaxed and himself in such role then any other movie I saw him in. After all, he was born and raised in a brothel in the Mid-west.

This is a good 70's flick takes you inside the mind of a pimp and a hooker. This is when black people had more unity even though this movie exploits African americans in a negative light the movie was entertaining.

Time has not changed very much. There is currupution on both sides. "Right is wrong / Wrong is right" On a lighter note, I am a Richard Pryor fan. His acting is always enjoyable to watch. Check this movie out if you want to be a pimp! LOL!!!

A "Must See" if you want to add to your "Ol' School" credentials. Watch this and you'll see where Snoop, Bishop Don Juan, Katt Williams and the like get their material from.

No...no, no, just no. Not a good movie. This movie is often referenced in hip hop, but so is Scarface. It's not the film, it's what the film is about. Do you think hip hop artists espouse Scarface because of it's cinematic virtues? C'mon. Same for The Mack. Acting? Pretty bad. Cinematography? Not too great. Script? An afterthought, once the basics were settled. It's just not a good film. It may prove interesting when trying to pick out every character or phrase ever referred to by your favorite rappers, but that's about it. Oh, and contrary to what another reviewer said, this is by far Richard Pryor's WORST performance as an actor. This should not even be mentioned in his body of work.
