Gabriel Baur directs the documentary Venus Boyz, an intimate look at drag king culture and female masculinity in various parts of the world. Starting out on Drag King Night in New York City, the film introduces the lives of several women who discuss their fascination with dressing up like men. Mildred Gerestant is a data processor who performs in the evenings as a male rapper named Dred. Dressed as businessman Danny King, Diane Torr runs workshops to show other women the fine art of drag king-dom. Other subjects include Bridge Markland from Germany, Del LaGrace Volcano from London, and several others. After opening to festival acclaim throughout Europe, Venus Boyz won an honorable mention at the New York Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi

I'm glad I watched it, because it opened my mind. This is a true documentary, not porn or cheap or anything that you might fear. This opened my eyes to think about gender identity as a seperate thing from sexual preference, or even sexual behavior. When women "become" men, they do it on a phsycological level to experience how society percieves them, and to feel more powerful, and they are also educating others using this as a creative artform of human nature. If you can get past the partial nudity and sexual innuendo in this film, which is typical of queen shows, and open your mind a little, I think you will learn alot about this part of our society made up of highly intelligent and creative people. 4 1/2 stars. Missing are the stories of the same people in indiginous, ancient, or third world countries, which I thought the description promised.

that I wonder how the director got the funding for. It is like some teen-ager got their paws on a video camera and just shot 'drag' kings and queens and nothing more. It was horrifically boring. I've seen amature's do a better job on their iMac's. Films like this made me switch my major to film. If they can get funding and put out boring crap like this, I can get less funding and still put out something much better.
