Set in the early 1900s, this film follows a young man named Devdas (Shah Rukh Khan) on his way home to India after having spent the past ten years in London. As the news reaches Devdas and his ex-love Paro's (Aishwarya Rai) respective households, the family matriarchs remember when the young couple were still children. When Devdas' mother found out the two wanted to get married, she refused to give her consent, and in doing so, set off a sequence of events which would lead Devdas into alcoholism. Though Paro has agreed to an arranged marriage with a wealthy landowner, she still loves Devdas, and is determined to lure him away from his constant drinking. Devdas is based on a classic Indian novel by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhye, and is the third feature directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

This movie is a masterpiece. The cinematography alone is unsurpassed. The acting, directing, dances, songs and music are all done to perfection. Such attention to detail! I was blown away! Very moving! A must see!

everything about this movie is great. or should there be a better word than great. Shahrukh, madhuri, the music, lyrics, sets, costumes, cinemetography, script (based on a romantic behgali novel), directon, acting, everything is just perfect. 1000000000000%%%%% recommended.

after several years of trying to get a hold on a copy of this movie, i was thrilled to finally be able to order it on this website. however, this excitement was only to be short-lived when i receive this copy.......... because unlike what the descriptions says, this is only the bonus features!!!!! the movie is NOT on this disc. why blockbuster has decided to do it this way is beyond me. it would only make logical sense to keep them together. so beware of this. if you want the movie..... DO NOT ORDER THIS ONE. as for the features: they are ok; nothing spectacular. however i haven't seen all of it because i was much disappointed in the is rather major technicality. in the description it just says bonus.... one would think that is alluding to bonus features in addition to the movie. the website should better clarify this.

A different take on the average Bollywood movie, from my perspective as a white boy, since it is a tragedy. It still has the glamour and songs of Bollywood with a more intense story line. My wife and I really enjoyed it and reccomend it to anyone who wants to get out of the box with their movie watching. Dump Hollywood, Watch Bollywood!

This was my first exposure to Bollywood and I was very impressed. Great enthusiasm and playfulness, great photography, and fascinating dance numbers. It was also a reminder of how Hollywood has completely bypassed sensuality in favor of sexuality. There is great passion in this film, without showing skin and without so much as a kiss. Even pulling a thorn out of one's foot is shown in a sensual way. I only wish I had been able to understand the dialogue myself rather than having to read subtitles for three hours.

Everything about this movie was wonderful. Aishwarya Rai sparkled in this bollywood classic. I was filled with tears at the end, everyone should watch I would recommend to this movie to anyone.

I wish I had read the reviews before ordering. I didn't watch any of the disc and will simply return it because I want to watch the actual movie first! I think it's fine that they rent out the bonus disc separately, but they need to clarify--this disc does NOT contain the movie!!!
