In director Arthur Hiller's hit tearjerker -- based on Erich Segal's novella -- Ryan O'Neal plays Oliver Barrett IV, a comfortably off Harvard pre-law student who falls in love with Radcliffe music student Jenny Cavilleri (Ali MacGraw), a freewheeling, delightfully profane product of a blue-collar Italian-American family. Oliver's father (Ray Milland) heartily disapproves of the subsequent marriage and cuts off his son's allowance. Despite financial travails (the pampered Oliver actually has to go to work!), the couple is blissfully happy....until Jenny is diagnosed as having an unnamed disease that consigns her to an early death. The movie's tagline "Love means never having to say you're sorry" became an iconic American catchphrase, the film's theme a number one hit. One of the early products of Paramount guru Robert Evans, Love Story grossed more money than any Paramount production before it. This enormously successful film inspired a 1978 sequel, Oliver's Story. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This to me is one of Ali McGraw and Ryan O'Neal best movies. When a guy and girl picks on each other because the see that they like each other. The romance grows in the short time. The pain you see each one going through in their private lives and why they are drawn together. A very moving film. Bring the tissue and ask not to be disturb.

Enjoyed the classic movie of love between two people from differant socieconomic backgrounds. It really shows that Love can overcome almost any obstacle put before it.

This was a great movie! I was so surprised since it is 40 years old but I really enjoyed it. Great acting, great plot well put together. I highly recommend it.

A classic for being the first of it's kind. So many other's have followed in it's footsteps.

It's a classic and I enjoyed it in the 70's and just watched it with my college aged children. The themes are universal and still current and we enjoyed it but Ali MacGraw got a lot more mileage out of her good looks than out of her acting ability.

I love this movie! The college setting is beautiful, as well! Ryan and Ali made a gorgeous-looking couple back in 1970!

"Love Story" was absolutely a beautiful story and Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal were so believable in their roles. Even the music throughout the story was heavenly and matched the story so well. I would recommend this story to everyone who has been or is in love or hopes to find love.

After 40 years I finally caught up to and watched the movie. Ali McGraw was unbelieveable and is Not a very good actress. The constant profane language was a constant distraction from a strong story line. The film forced the relationship and tried to cover too much time is too short of a period. Sorry, the movie didn't work

This movie is great. I remember seeing in the theatre during Christmas week 1970 for the first time, and as many times as I have seen it since then, it just gets better and better.

I remember seeing this as a teenager in the 1970's. It was great! I now wanted to show my teenage girls. What a disappointment for them and me. I was not impressed with the acting, directing or filming. Great movie for 1970, but not for 2007.
