Member Rating:
Babycakes is an American remake of the raucous 1988 German comedy Sugarbaby. A pre-talkshow Ricki Lake stars as Grace Johnson, who works as a cosmetician in a funeral parlor. The elephantine Grace falls in love with pencil-thin ice skater Rob Harrison (Craig Sheffer). Despite Harrison's indifference, Grace maps out a meticulous campaign to overwhelm and seduce her dream lover. Made for TV, Babycakes had its premiere on February 14, 1989. ~ Hal Erickson, Rovi

This is one of my go to chick flix. I think it was originally made for TV. Ricki Lake is relatable as the "fat chick", lonely and looking for hope and understanding. Although the points are exaggerated and the acting only so so, any women who ever left behind by the people she loves can appreciate this love story. It's about the imperfect lives we live and trying to improve ourselves. It's about taking chances and doing the right thing, even in the simplest terms.
