One of the most popular adventure stories of all time gets an exciting new screen adaptation in this made-for-TV movie, based on Johann David Wyss' The Swiss Family Robinson. When Mr. and Mrs. Robinson (Liam Cunningham and Brana Bajic) decide to leave their home in Switzerland and start a new life in the United States, they know they and their children will be setting out on the adventure of a lifetime. However, when their ship sinks in a violent storm at sea, the Robinsons are faced with challenges they never expected; they make their way to a small island and must learn how to survive with only their wits to guide them. In time, the Robinson family manages to not merely survive, but thrive in their new home. When a band of ruthless pirates lands on the island, they have to defend their home and themselves while pondering if this could be their last opportunity to return to civilization. Stranded also stars Jesse Spencer, Bonnie Wright, Emma Pierson, Charlie Lucas, Andrew Lee Potts, and Neil Newbon as the Robinson children. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

The Blockbuster.com description is incorrect. The story of this wonderful movie goes something like this: an 1800s Englishman is tried for treason and is punished with "transportation", which means being sent to Australia for life. His loving, devoted family vows to accompany him. After a violent storm and they wash up on a deserted island, were they make a good life for themselves. Their son Jacob, however, was taken by escaping sailors from their ship and forced into piracy for 7 years. He is later reunited with his family, the pirates are vanquished, and the each member decides for themselves where their happiness lays. One of the best videos I have watched since "Master and Commander". A sweeping, swashbuckling tale, with magnificent south seas settings and characters you can genuinely care about, it makes a wonderful afternoon's viewing. Excellent family fare. I hope you will give "Stranded" a try.

Our entire family enjoyed this movie! I love the Disney version, but this one had so much more...probably more like the classic book, although I've never read it. Maybe I'll do it now! Very enjoyable movie!

JERRY H. I read the book at least twice back in the late 50's-early 60's. It's one of my favorite books of all time. I always recommend it to young readers. I don't think this movie follows the book very well but it's well worth watching.

Be very careful when renting this movie. We went to rent this very movie but instead got a movie entitled "Stranded" that was actually a documentary entirely in another language (subtitled in english) about some rugby team whose plane crashed on an Andean glacier. Was very disappointed when I got home. Not one word in English. Again just be very careful and pay strict attention when trying to rent this movie.

The other reviewers must've smoked crack before watching Stranded; either that or they work for whatever company came out with this garbage. You're better off renting the original, you won't be disappointed. As far as this horrible remake, I wish I had more hands, so I could give this move FOUR THUMBS DOWN!

THIS MOVIE IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME! BETTER THAN SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON AND ROBINSON CRUSOE. IT DOES NOT HAVE A RATING BUT SHOULD BE RATED ABOUT PG FOR SOME ACTION, AND VIOLENCE SCENES. I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS MOVIE. IT WILL BE A FAVORITE AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN.
