The long-running cartoon from William Hanna and Joseph Barbera that began life in 1969 as Scooby-Doo, Where Are You? becomes this live-action, tongue-in-cheek comedy-adventure featuring a computer-generated version of the easily frightened, mush-mouthed Great Dane. Freddie Prinze Jr. stars as Fred, the blonde, confident, ascot-sporting leader of Mystery Inc., a ghost-busting service that exposes phony supernatural phenomena as the work of shysters. Working with Fred are: his rich, beautiful girlfriend, Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar), who has a bad habit of getting kidnapped by villains; Velma (Linda Cardellini), the real brains of the group who pines secretly for Fred; cowardly slacker and dog's best friend Shaggy (Matthew Lillard); and the snack-gobbling pet pooch Scooby. However, after solving its latest case involving a beleaguered toy company owner (Pamela Anderson), the group fractures over Fred's habit of grabbing credit for everyone's hard work, despite the pleas of Shaggy and Scooby. Two years later, they are reunited at Spooky Island, a theme park and teen spring break destination that owner Emile Mondavarious (Rowan Atkinson) claims is plagued with ghosts. Suspicious as usual of any claims involving the paranormal, the Mystery Inc. clan is soon probing a scheme involving ancient rites, summoned spirits, and brainwashed college students, forcing the group members to resolve their differences and uncover the truth. Directed by Chris Columbus protégé Raja Gosnell, Scooby-Doo features the voice of Scott Innes as the title character. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

I think the only good things in this movie are the actors and the animated Scooby. Really, they are great. Espcially with the voices. But, the movie itself is pretty bad. Bad writing, bad humor. You're not missing anything, if you don't see it.

i remember liking the cartoon..the scooby movies arent meant to be taken seriously, there all light hearted fun,dry humor thrown in..the first being the best one..the rest just dumb..all good for kids, but for adults its just memories of the cartoon version..and characters are memorable..its a fun dry humor ride..grab a sandwich, just check it out..not bad for a family type movie..but not excellent

I remember loving the Scooby Doo cartoons....this is a very different take...it's actually a little more dark then the cartoons, but I thought it was very cute.... Very much for the younger crowd, but I had my fun moments about it...acting was cheesy but that could be expected from it....all in all I had fun watching it! :)

I really expected more from this movie. In the Scooby cartoons, even though the basis of the storyline was unrealistic - c'mon, it's a talking dog! - the mysteries were always a little intriguing, and at the end, made sense. The characters, effects and photography in the movie are fanatastic but the mystery is so far-fetched and crazy that the movie falls really flat! It's really bizarre why the didn't stick with the original formula that made the "original" so popular for so many years. A remake should be a reminder of why you fell in love with the original. Just my opinion.

It's a kid movie, of course. As an adult I thought they captured the "characteristics" of the movie and it's cartoon plots pretty good. I haven't laughed so hard like that (at the fart scene) for a long time.

But I was pleasantly surprised! It kept my interest. The effects were brilliant. The acting was brilliant. The voices were brilliant. I felt like I was watching a cartoon come to life. The people even looked like I imagined the cartoon characters to look like in real life. They even stuck to the original theme of the cartoons, sort of. Those that watched this and gave it bad review, expected way too much.

Stick to the cartoons. This movie went way too far with the theme. Spirits going in and out of people?????? bad. Someone gave this movie to us and after watching it, I threw it away!!
