The Aviator (1985) Reviews

The Aviator (1985)
Member Rating:
Based on a novel by Ernest Gann and set in 1928, this story starts out focusing on aviation and then flies in another direction at about three feet worth of altitude. Christopher Reeves is Edgar Anscombe, a pilot of a Stearman biplane running a mail route between the states of Washington and Nevada, when he is obliged to accept Tillie Hansen (Rosanna Arquette) as a passenger one day. Introverted at best, sullen and forbidding at worst, Edgar is struggling with his own trauma after surviving a crash that left him with an ugly scar across his face. Tillie personifies all the worse traits commonly attributed to the rich and spoiled -- and the two are set to joust from the beginning. After they take off, an accident occurs and although the dueling pair survive the crash, they are hard put to survive for long in the desolate mountains. Soon Edgar's friend Jerry (Scott Wilson) is out looking for him, and Tillie's obnoxious father is there at the base airport to put pressure on everyone to find her. Needless to say, Edgar and Tillie, in the meantime, are faced with dangers that make their previous problems seem minor. ~ Eleanor Mannikka, Rovi

I too got this because I thought it was the other one. Teach me to not look at the picture on the screen. But, in a way I am glad I did get it and see it. It was wonderful seeing Reeves again. His acting abilities are greatly missed. Arquette did a wonderful job in this too. Nothing like the flirty, stupid characters she plays in her later movie career. The scenery was spectacular and the story line easy to follow, a few twist and a heart warming ending. They just do not make simple, honest movies anymore. I suggest this for anyone.

Sorry to say, it was a waste of time making the movie. A miss-match of the 2 main actors. No chemistry, even the exchange was boring (predictable).

I really did not like this film at all. I thought it was boring and dull at the same time. I like Christopher reeves, but the character he played was not that well developed. Neither was Rosanna Arquette. Her acting was just terrible. A spoiled brat she was. Do not see this film at all. not worth the time and movie.

I good movie to watch. I thought it was enjoyable. It was a little like Seven Days and Seven Nights. Older movie but good. Carolyn C.

Good story that will keep you involved until the end. You know where its going, but let it take you there anyway.

Rented this thinking it was the 2005 Blockbuster movie "Aviator" instead of 1985's "The Aviator". What a dissapointment!!
