After the long-delayed Town and Country, director Peter Chelsom turns in his second 2001 effort with this love-at-first-sight romantic comedy that revolves around fate, destiny, and chance. Jonathan (John Cusack) and Sara (Kate Beckinsale) are two New Yorkers already in relationships when they meet one another, each reaching for the last pair of cashmere gloves at a department store. Over coffee, they strike up an intimate conversation, and Jonathan thinks they should see each other again. Unconvinced, Sara arranges an elaborate series of "fate" games; if they're meant to be together, she reasons, she and Jonathan will receive some sort of sign in the future. Flash forward several years, and the two are at opposite ends of the country -- Jonathan in New York and Sara in San Francisco, both engaged to be married. Still, neither can shake the memory of their chance encounter, and they both enlist their best friends (Molly Shannon and Jeremy Piven) to help them find their true love again. Serendipity had its Gala World Premiere at the 2001 Toronto Film Festival. ~ Michael Hastings, Rovi

Cute but predictable. Some parts were totally ridiculous, but then it's a fairy tale.

The hit "Always Something There To Remind Me" by Naked Eyes (look it up on youtube) should have been playing when the credits rolled at the end of this movie, but it wasn't so I have to deduct some points. And Im sure John Cusak must have the song in 80s collection. But the song sums up the movie- if you've ever dated someone but then parted ways and then start noticing odd things on a routine basis that specifically remind you of that person- so blatent that you suspect that God or The Universe is involved then you will like this movie. It's pretty good for a chick flick. The elevator scene seemed pretty symbolic to me- the 23rd floor represents John Cusak's character's greatest spiritual potential but all his "little demons" distract him along the way- and he loses his way- and misses an opportunity- but he gets a second chance- ok- I wont give any more of this film away. Good chick flick.

Delightfully romantic. Characters are so human that you can relate to them. I'm sure many of us have felt the same way when we were young and dating.
