Country singer Dwight Yoakam is a co-producer of this Miramax comedy about marital infidelity among the Southern redneck set. Auto dealer Lonnie Earl (Billy Bob Thornton) and his wife, Darlene (Natasha Richardson), are best friends with good-natured Roy (Patrick Swayze) and his spitfire wife, Candy (Charlize Theron), who's ovulating and trying to become pregnant. When the quartet of Arkansas natives decides to take an SUV cross-country to a monster truck show in Reno, NV, an alarming secret is revealed: Lonnie Earl and Candy have been having an affair. The revelation comes as a shock to the guileless Roy and much put-upon Darlene, who absconds with her husband's credit cards for a spending spree that includes designer boutiques and a Tony Orlando concert. Meanwhile, Candy's quest to have a baby takes on a new dimension in light of her extracurricular activities with Lonnie Earl. Waking Up in Reno (2002) is based on a script by longtime screenwriting partners/actors Brent Briscoe and Mark Fauser, who also play supporting roles in the film. ~ Karl Williams, Rovi

Funny! I laugh a lot at this movie. These are the kinds of people at really exist out there. Having the same thoughts and situations as many people do…”Jerry Springish” You might think those people are “Low Class” but their the people that sell you your cars, work at factors where you get your cat food, and woman who raise their kids.

Took a chance with this one - the star power was the draw. We were not disappointed. Kinda weak script but the acting made it entertaining. The guys were outshined by the gals.

Funny & serious movie. Good stars and I enjoyed watching it. Anything with Patrick Swayze is always a treat to watch, as with Charlize. Natasha was great and Billy Bob was the usual.

Really good cast and acting. Funny but not slapstick. Richardson (who is English) pulls off the southern accent with ease. Overall very good and entertaining movie.

It is what it is - with a good cast in a B movie. Very lite entertainment ... though not LOL funny. Swayze must've done this one either right before or right after his plane crash. He's better than this. Charlize ...? See "Cider House Rules" for a better look at her at this age.

I thought the movie would be better but overall, it's not too bad. Billy Bob is just a wonderful actor...gotta love him and I feel he saved the movie!!!!!! Without him, I'd give 2 stars.

This a good cast which is what initially interested me, but it was such a lousy movie, I couldn't even watch more then 1/2 hour of it. Such over charactures of rednecks that I lost any interest in there lives and what would happen to them.

this moie is about 4 rednecks who vacation together and are reminded of how much they love their spouses. it does have a few funny moments. but its not really worth the time.
